Some of you are too hard on Big, give credit when it is due. He is what 70 something and his whole life has been T/ F, I would like to see one of detractors switch from Stock to T/F and see how long it takes you to get down the track. I would like to see him get some real help from Stocker people, you all know it aint easy so why do you bust him for having a good time ?

Many of us who have raced for decades appreciate Big for the legend he truly is. Stock is obviously not his forte but that doesn't lessen his status as THE MAN! Fact that he redlite against one racer or beat a sportsman legend doesn't change anything. Hope Big can keep having fun with his DP.

I think Big is doing very well, car gets faster every time out. Being an innovator in our sport since day one I understand he is doing the mech. and tune on his DP. He is the definition of old school thinking, if I don't work on it it's not my car, give him a few more laps and he will be at or near the top in terms of performance of the DP's. He turns 80 next Jan. gsa612

I can only hope that I can still be racing and competitive at Big Daddy's age. Same goes for Bobby Warren. Both of these guys are iron men in my opinion. "Big" always brings alot of attention to stock when he is at an event. I wished he would run more of the divisionals and even some SSSSA events in Florida. Might just put a few more butts in the stands.

For those of you not so old......Big started out as a class racer in Stock.

He and his wife raced a 1962 Max Wedge Dodge, in fact, they drove it from FL to TX and won then capped it up and drove home again.

He also raced in the Gas classes with different cars locally before turning to rails.....where the money was!

He was into fuel rails using carbs and no blower using nitro before the 62 Dodge. Even his early gas class car had an early style Hemi in it. That 62 413 car was a "gimmie" from Dodge for publicity.

His gas-powered dragster won Top Eliminator in a race in Florida and was reported on in a Hot Rod magazine I had in 1956.... 108 MPH.... It was powered ny a Ford flathead.

The story goes, he took the 331 Hemi out of his tow car ( a '40 Ford coupe) and put in the rail, (in place of the flathead) and it was quicker and faster... and, a legend was born! :)

I have been told Don has "released" the crew he has had since he got the Challenger and has new people. He reportedly has gotten much more involved himself this year and has plans to be very competitive in class. The car is getting quicker. As posted above he will be 80 years young soon and is legally deaf. They don't call him "Big Daddy" for nothing! Jim:D

How do you like Big's take on 4 wide for sportsman

from Competition Plus:

“I think there’s something that should be really considered is to run these stockers 4-Wide, like the stock classes, the Stock Eliminator that I’m in,” he said. “There’s 59 cars here in that class. We could have some real good racing 4-Wide due to the fact you’ve got a lot of cars. I think it would cause the stock Sportsmen classes to be a lot more exciting to send four of them down at a time versus the two and you’ve got plenty of cars so it would be a big show. With four on the track at the same time, it would be a lot more exciting. "

TALK ABOUT ORGANIZED MAYHEM......please Don no more ideas
