Terry, you are fine with that. If you show up at L weight when you claim K, you would have an issue. ( or within 5 lbs of L weight).

Don't change a thing. You coming to Earlville Memorial Day weekend for the Heartland 2 day race?

So are you going to DQ someone for weighing 3 pounds under the maximum weight as it's defined in the rule book?? “All cars will be permitted to run on the class minimum weight, but may be no heavier than the minimum for the next heavier class.” If that's the rule it doesn't say anything about 5 pounds under the minimum.

The reason 5 pounds is used is because the scales read in 5 pound increments, not 3 pound increments. The maximum weight limit works just like the minimum weight limit. The rule has always been if you are too light it is a DQ. Now with the new rule if you are too heavy it is also a DQ.

Travis, glad to hear the news. I was beginning to think that every ruling was going to favor the factory cars.

Well, if my minimum for the next heavier class is 3500 pounds and I get on the scale and I weigh 3500, I am not heavier than the minimum for the next heavier class, correct?

You either need to change the rule to say you must weigh less than the next heavier class or allow people to weigh right on the minimum of the next heavier class.

Travis, what is NHRA's calibration policy for the scales?

I agree with Toby. They either need to rewrite the rule or let us use the next class minimum weight for the maximum. Just my opinion. Dave Walther

Scales are calibrated before a big meet.

The scales are usually open to anyone who wants to weigh their car. A lot of racers come down before their first run and weigh their cars. SOME DO NOT.

As with any new rule, it takes some getting use to. Those who move up a class need to weigh their cars before they run to be sure they fit between the min and max.
