Paul these photos's bring back tons of memeories from our childhood, some great times and great racing. Paul the legs are gone but the shot is still golden, come to the races with me someday. This weekend is the Dover reunion at Lebanon Valley, lots of cars from our past. Hope all is well, love these photo's...

1966........ I/SA '57 Chevy sedan delivery......283/220.....4 speed hydro.....Your choice on a carb....WCFB or Rochester 4GC......We used the Carter....

14.78 was the record I think....Big John Barkely......Half Moon Bay probably...West coast Mineshaft or so we were told anyway......

We ran some 14.70's that year......ran like crap at Indy but got to the final....Got beat.....Winner DQ'ed.....Than same fate for us......

The record of 14.78 at Half Moon Bay was set by Marv Ripes in late 1965. This was before John Barkley was involved with the A-1 Automatic Hardtop. Yes Half Moon Bay was a mine shaft. Div 7 does not have any more mine shafts.

Tony......I think the East Coast had numerous mineshaft tracks......Just needed the right weather conditions....

Cecil County...
Atco.....
Suffolk....

I may be fuzzy but I sure recall Barkely's name on that record....

We always wondered how the heck a P/G trans car could run that fast....

There was none like that anywhere around here!

Anyone with a P/G was usually not even in the 14's......

I'm guessing that the car was owned, or at least engineered by Ike Smith. He was responsible for most of the Hudson Stockers in Southern California. The track was almost certainly Carlsbad.

Regarding the "legal" hood bubble. This picture was the rough chronological contemporary of the earlier post of Larry Walker's '57 blown Ford with a '58 hood. "Minor customizing" was permitted. These little twists seem to really stand out but they were the outgrowth of anomalies in the rules that also permitted experiments such as gutted grills, tilted, "snow plow" license plate brackets, sedan delivery hydros and the 4-speed '57 Chevy combination. Farmer Dismuke slammed the door on these shenanigans fairly quickly.

Just another hiccup in the development of the sport!
