Thanks Charlie. I don't pretend to know all the answers, and I also realise guys who run minature pro stock, which is what comp is. We run our best shifting at 9,700. Peak is 9,300. It doesn't fall off much, but it starts it's downward trend. Our best pass to date is only .001 under the nhra index, so we are no threat. If I was younger, I would try a little harder then I do now days.Ha! But we have fun trying. We have ran .9 under the ss index, but that's a whole nother ball game. Thanks guy.

Sorry. I meant to say I realise guys in comp are a bit smarter then most.

I have a 304 ci ford in ss/modified. The dyno sheet shows the motor making power @ 9900 rpm and never falls off. where should I shift and/or is the cam putting the power in no-mans land. Thanks

That's where I would think you would want it. That's way better then our motor for SS\Mod. I would keep going on the dyno and see. You probably have a really good piece.

Powerglide - 800 (it's likely going to go to stall RPM)
3 speed - 600
4 speed - 400

The G-meter graph from the Racepak will be your tuning tool.

I only run Stock & Super Stock so excuse my ignorance. But what I see missing from this conversation is any reference to the type of transmission and gear ratios within the transmission. And I believe that is critical on the shift RPM.
