Re: Superstock A Body oil pans?
I was told in a small block A-body to use the Dakota pan and the old style biscuit mount K-member. The motor mounts must be switched to the front of the ears on the block. This moves the engine back about 1 1/2 inches and gives clearance for the Dak pan. Also, I was told to use the '73 - '76 A-body steering linkage with the center link tweaked a skosh so as to clear the pan. I haven't tried this yet, but it makes sense to me.

Re: Superstock A Body oil pans?
Todd you are close, but you need the early centerlink, pitman arm and idler arm (72 or older), with the motor back as far as you can get it. Then everything needs to be bent down about and inch.
One problem is the Dakota pan won't fit on a 318 or 340 without modifing the rear main cap where the back of the pan seals. All the Dakota pans use the small radius seal on the back. The pre '91 LA motors (except 360's) use the large radius oil pan seal. I think the '91 up rear main cap will fit the older motors, but this needs to be changed before the motor is line bored. It's a great little oil pan when you get it to fit. I'm still working on it. George |
Re: Superstock A Body oil pans?
Hey George, so are there any late steering parts that are needed? Tie rods and sleeves ??? Lower ball joints/steering arms ???

Re: Superstock A Body oil pans?
Todd,
From the centerlink out either old or new will work, but you need the early centerlink and arms. The early one sits on the top of the arms, nuts facing up, the later one the nuts face down centerlink sits under the arms. If you have them next to each other you can easily tell the difference.
