Re: Swiss Cheese and Aluminum
So what do you get when a '64 Plymouth Belvedere with an aluminum front end and a '64 Fairlane Thunderbolt with fiberglass parts that meet up unexpectedly...an expensive bill.

Re: Swiss Cheese and Aluminum
Swiss Cheese Heads,
The 'SWH' say that approximately 120 holes were punched out of the 1963 SD-421 Pontiac Catalina frame. Grapefruit size. |
Re: Swiss Cheese and Aluminum
This '62 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty called 'Rainmaker' was found sitting in a shed and turns out it was originally Don Gay's old '62 Pontiac SD.

Re: Swiss Cheese and Aluminum
Does this sound correct,,,,,
1963 Pontiac SD-421 Catalina 'Lightweight',,,,,,,,,,,#3608 lbs. When 'Swiss Cheesed',,,,,,,,,,#3308 lbs. If 120 holes were punched out the frame, with a net weight removal of 300 lbs. (or 4800 ounces) The grapefruit sized circle of metal-frame weighed approximately 40 ounces or 2.25 lbs. each. Your Class Racer Mathmetician,,,,,,,,,;) |
Re: Swiss Cheese and Aluminum
I don't know all of the answers...it sure would be nice to talk to someone that worked on the production line who actually built some of these Pontiac Swiss Cheese Super Duty cars though.

Now here's a older photo...anyone know where this was taken, looks like 'super trick' rims on the front.

Re: Swiss Cheese and Aluminum
I lived in Richmond In for most of my life. Raced from my shop 1/2 way to a town called Cenerville, In. Many times heard of a Swiss cheese sitting in a garage in Centerville. Never believed it. Two years ago visiting a family member at the Hospital in Richmond met a friend from Centerville who's friend was critical from a heart attack that day. Turns out the friend had just had his Swiss Cheese car totally restored at a major cost and got it home that week. The owner went on to die that day. No idea where the car went again....I will check.
