Re: New Demon Carburetor
OK, I got ya. Yes those fuel wells are epoxied in. I can say I have never seen one that has fallen out on it's own. The epoxy does get old and if it is hit or pried it will break off. Easy to fix.The TQ actually is a very good piece. All the MoPar small and big blocks from '71 until the fuel injection change over used TQ's. Some of the fastest class cars still are equipped with them. I have been using and building them for others since they came out. Every factory fuel system has it's faults, fuel injection (my last two race cars were injected) included. Call me crazy, I like the Thermoquad. Jim
P.S. I have made good money building TQ's for racers also! . |
Re: New Demon Carburetor
Does anybody know that FORD used a Thermo Quad in production?? 1974 Lincoln 460 for California.

Re: New Demon Carburetor
Jim, I didn't build them for race cars. Just overhauls for people's work cars. The base didn't touch those in the problem carbs. I used modeling clay to measure the space in there, and found some thin rubber to cut pads from. Put those in all my rebuilds. Devon epoxy & those pads took care of them. I did that work for 40 years. Many customers were with me the whole time.
It was an easy test. If the idle adjustment screws had to be all the way in to get the C.O. (Sun 4 Gas Infrared exhaust analyzer) close to where it belonged, those were leaking. Just like Holley power valves or QJet metering well plugs. |

Considering the resemblance and difficulty in finding parts, I couldn't help but wonder if Holley and NHRA would consider building the correct sizes and allowing them like they did with certain Holley/Quick Fuel carbs. |

Re: New Demon Carburetor
Holley and Raybestos were bought by another company and that reminded me of this thread and the TQ look-a-like. Anything new about the Demon TQ?
Hope nothing bad happens to Holley after all the progress it's made since almost going out of business several years ago. http://www.moparmax.com/news/2012/news-vii_7-3.html |
