Re: If your coming to houston this weekend and your rig is o
so a 40ft MH and a 28ft tag trailer is ILLEGAL by how much 3 ft or 8ft??thats with a 3 or 4 ft drawbar and a 28 ft box---so if ya have a 40 MH ya better have a trailler that is no more than 25 ft long measuring from the ball mount to the back of the box right??? looks like a 20 foot box might just make it the way I figure

Straight out of the State of Texas Transportation Code 621.205. Every race I get asked by someone look at that rig how in the hell does he get away with that! I always say I hope he has a permit.
(a) Except as provided by this section, a combination of not more than three vehicles, including a truck and semitrailer, truck and trailer, truck-tractor and semitrailer and trailer, or a truck-tractor and two trailers, may be coupled together if the combination of vehicles, other than a truck-tractor combination, is not longer than 65 feet. |

Like most my 40 ft motorhome and 28 ft trailer is over the 65 ft limit but we have never been stopped. I do have the class B license for it but I always worry about the extra few feet in length. I also like most on here see the rigs at the races that are 80 plus feet in length and there are lots of them these days and wonder how they get by being that long on the road. Thanks Rick Cates |

Most states have the 65 ft limit for all rigs tagged RV. If it is a Commercial tag you can get by with the longer lengths. It seems the troopers target the toter homes and let the motor homes slide. All those friends that were ticketed had toters. It is starting to take the fun out of getting to the races for sure. My 2 Cents Rick Cates |
Re: If your coming to houston this weekend and your rig is o
In florida the overlength permit is $20.00 for the whole year

Re: If your coming to houston this weekend and your rig is o
just talked to Tony Zizzo-- told me that Schumacher just spent $20M per trailer to have them SHORTENED 3 feet so that he would not get into overlength trouble!!!! A racer going to the Winters got stopped by Ca. Hwy patrol cost him $30M to have the trailer flatbedded outa state cuz it was too long----yes they are looking at ALL motorhomes towing trailers for over length violations and Toterhomes for overweight and air brake endorsements and license violations--- So be warned they are coming after us

Had wondered about this for years, why Texas (among other states) had not actively enforced this rule .. its been in place for a long time. |
