Trust me on this one. Just got my motor today shipped from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas less than $300. SBC engine. Arranges everything.

Stock / Super Stock racer Greg Gay can help you too, he owns BDR transport and can ship across the country.

FYI, freightquote and unishippers are 3rd party logistics companies. They do not own their own equipment. They put the freight on independant owner trucks. Not saying that's bad, but you lose a little control that way. I like fedex ground.

Re: Engine Shippers

Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys. We can really only handle two types of moves:
1) Shipments originating in New England going to most places in the country and
2) Shipments originating in California going back to New England (and maybe a drop off directly in route).

As for most traditional LTL carriers, my only advice is crate them well. Break-bulk terminals are named that for a reason. Those guys load every inch of a trailer, and they can be brutal.

A couple years back, we moved a hemi for the Howes. They had a big plastic box that bolted together and was designed to move an engine. It was fantastic. You could ship your engine with most anyone, if it was protected like that.

For the shipments that do move in our lanes: B-D-R Transport, 800-421-0126.

The key to any shipment is the packaging. Any assembled block must be securely bolted and/or strapped to a pallet of sufficient weight to handle the weight of the engine(300-500lbs). I have handle everything from junk core motors to blown alcohol pro-mod stuff and regardless of the value it must be packed to prevent movement. It's also a good idea to stretch wrap the entire package to prevent penetration by dust, water, grease, etc. It will be picked up and moved by forklift drivers at several terminals between origin/destination so make sure to keep that in mind.

Any engine or trans of less than 500lbs should be able to move for less than about $250 just about anywhere in the country. Please don't call unless you are willing to take responsibility for adequate packing.

I just used Mark's services at Lynn Traffic to get an engine block shipped to a machine shop. His customer service is top notch, prompt and knowledgeable in shipping engines and parts at a very competitive price. You will not be disappointed!

I highly recommend his services and you will be supporting a fellow Sportsman racer too. :)
