Re: 72 Maverick
Ford put a 4 speed transmission in the later model 75-77(?) models, 4th gear was not a 1:1 drive ratio something like .85:1 overdrive, which was the going thing back then. The F100 and F150 had the same setup and those transmissions look like a 4 speed top loader but with different gear ratios. A lot of people are putting that setup in Cruisers and older Muscle cars. I have done 3 or 4. JPT turned me on th them, just getting harder to find good cores.

Re: 72 Maverick
Early Falcons , 63-65 era, had a Dagenham 4 speed behind the 170 6 cylinders. The OD 4 speed toploaders drove thru the cluster in overdrive and arent real strong. The weakest have bushings on the cluster & the better ones {used in vans }have needle bearings. Doesnt mean you have to run the original one though. I meant for street use

Re: 72 Maverick
As someone said, the maverick will be tough in stock with the 2bbl which is why we went with Super Stock. We put a clone 289/210/210 motor in Jamie Schoenly's '72 Maverick here in D1 from spare parts lying around from my 289. It's not far under the index yet but it is a cool looking super stocker! I've never really looked into EFI combos, that's an idea..

Re: 72 Maverick
How about a Maverick with a Boss 302 got GT? A 351 C would be fast but won't clear spring towers and get a good set of headers on it.
