Re: Are they legal?

If Strange makes the 9 inch Ford set ups for the Copo and V-10 Drag Paks anyway, can a Strange 12 bolt "Drop Out" center section be substituted? This unit has the same bolt
pattern that will fit right in any 9 inch Ford housing but uses 12 bolt gears and spool.

It seems to me that since GM developed the 12 bolt it would make sense that the Strange
"Drop Out" 12 bolt center section would be legal to use in the GM Copo application.

As an example, in 1982-85, GM sold an over-the-counter service package rear for the Camaro that was a Dana 44 and you can't use a Dana in a Chevy.

I remember there were some mexican market GM G-bodys with the Dana rear factory installed as well.
The subject came up over on www.maliburacing.com a couple of years back and someone had pics to prove it.
Would that make it "legal" to use it here?

They have allowed a housing that Moser makes for the DP which is a stock looking 9" that Moser machines off the front, welds a ring around it and studs it for an 8 3/4. Really nice piece. Aluminum centers for the 8 3/4 not legal per Bruce in Stock. That is FWIW (For What It's Worth for the uniformed).

Jeff,
Does this mean I can not install a 7 1/4" in my Drag Pak?!! What will I do now?!!

Larry, the 7 1/4 is legal for the first turn of the tire in the burnout. After that it don't matter cause it's broke anyway. You know the old 9 1/4 Chrysler was a pretty good piece, and not nearly as heavy as the Dana, but not much gear selection.
