Re: Stock/Superstock Combo Muncie Dragway
Obviously the date would try to accommodate the national and divisional schedule along with the open schedules. Just so everyone knows.

Re: Stock/Superstock Combo Muncie Dragway
I can come with two car if schedule at right timing. S/SS combo &heads up are great! Please do turn this in to a bracket race, with no heads up and any combo dial in. Just my 2 cents. Thanks

I meant to say do not.

Re: Stock/Superstock Combo Muncie Dragway
My vote is no heads-up. Makes it easier on everybody - no games w/ weight or debate about the scales, etc.
There are a number of class cars in Michigan, northern Ohio and Indiana that need some of these Combo races to fill in the gaps in the schedule - and more importantly - to have some fun. I wish somebody would resurrect the Great Lakes Stock-S/S series. Milan, Central, US131. ............... |
Re: Stock/Superstock Combo Muncie Dragway
From most of the spectator aspect of it. If there is no heads-up there is no point in watching it. Otherwise it's just another bracket race with different cars competing other then the locals. Not real exciting for the people watching. Yes Stock/SuperStock is a glorified bracket race for most of the time but its a performance based class some of the time and that's the exciting part. As a racer and also a spectator I watch/race for the heads-up I put up with the bracket stuff as just a required evil to keep cost down.
From a point of view of cost, simplicity and to allow drivers/teams to dial in their combo for the NHRA race. Then bracket would work. (Plus those who play the game and never want to show their true hand on running under the index) From a standpoint of entertainment for drivers and spectators. And to work on their combo for all out performance and draw some attention from the crowd interesting them into Stock/SuperStock cars. Heads-up is the way to go. Personally I'm not going to drive 2 1/2 hours to bracket race more then once more then likely. I can do that at 3 tracks all less then an hour from my house. Maybe a compromise depending how many show up. 1.) You could run it with class run-off and combos for those that are the only car in that index and then an overall winner with everyone competing. Prize for heads up and prize for bracket portion 2.) Have heads-up for the current stockers/SuperStockers and nostalgia for the guys wanting to run bracket. In any event advertising/promoting the event and getting support and public interested is going to be the key to making it a success. I'd go to a lot more things if only I knew about them in advance. Also how about having people actually drive their stock cars not just "Stock/SuperStock" if car counts are low and could get some people involved in the racing. If its stock/near stock then you can enter? Doesn't even really have to be in the guide. You have a 2013 GT500 or even a 98 200SX come on down. You would need a decent tech guy to keep everyone straight and class them appropriately so as to not get completely creamed by the full bore Stock/SuperStock cars but could also take their best qualifying time and drop it a tenth and stagger the start that way . Or would that dilute what was wanting to be put on? Just throwing ideas around. |

How much work was it to run that GLSS combo? Maybe it could be resurrected. |
Re: Stock/Superstock Combo Muncie Dragway
Sorry If no heads up it's a bracket race! Why would you want to run S/SS and not have the thrill of running a heads up? I will stay home and run bracket!

Heads up is what make class racing, class racing.

Re: Stock/Superstock Combo Muncie Dragway
This topic comes up often in association races, Heads-up or No heads-up. In the ASRA we run 6 races annualy and have for 31 years. Our car counts average over 60 . We have always had heads up in our events. We always have scales, we always weigh cars during time trials and we have spot check rounds where everyone weights. most importantly if there is a heads up, we always weigh that pair.
Yes we have dq'd because a racer is lite during the eliminator , but it is rare and probably has happened 3 times in the last 10 years. the 3 that come to mind, 2 were heads up and 1 was not. Honestly we have not had any big controversies regarding weight and legality issues, we allow protests, but I know we have not had one in 20 years and maybe never. Some of our most exciting and talked about events and rounds have involved heads up runs. And we have had votes at our meetings about heads up and each time the vote has resoundingly gone for heads up. I will say that I believe you will get more cars if you have heads up runs. That's just my take on the deal Most importantly, anyone who organizes a stk/ss event is to be congratulated, it is like a civic duty to our sport and is a lot of work, but well worth it. Good Luck |
