now about the 1967 Chevy ll sedan post-----because it was a SS hardtop available option, could that sedan post car have ever had bucket seats ????

Please don't further confuse them as they are having a hard enough time wrapping their heads around the need for a modern strut rod design:confused:

Re: Stock Seat Rule Example Question

As we are talking about things like this seat ruling amendment and we interpret rules in many different ways I seem to remember somewhere in the rule book there is a clause that goes something like " if it is not expressly prohibited or allowed do not assume that it is/is not legal" or something along those lines. You had better get a ruling from NHRA regarding any questions regarding the legality of anything!!!! Been there done that! --FED387

And with sometimes convenient or aging memories , in writing wouldn't hurt either.

page xv under "HOW TO USE THIS RULEBOOK" in the rule book

On the other hand, as to performance equipment, it is the
general rule that unless optional performance equipment or
performance-related modification is specifically permitted by
this Rulebook, it is prohibited. All model, engine, or equipment
changes or modifications not specifically addressed in this
Rulebook must be submitted in writing to NHRA for
consideration prior to competition. Approval will be granted or
denied in NHRA’s sole and absolute discretion. The applicant
will be notified of approval or rejection in writing from NHRA
headquarters in Glendora, Calif.

Re: Stock Seat Rule Example Question

They are going to have to fix that. Now if you have one of these cars that run a higher class, you have to stick with a bench seat? I thought you could convert a car with a bench to bucket seats without a problem. How many people today know what car came with bench and bucket seats. Why was this even brought up? Some people go to far and hurt their own cause looking for approval for everything. How many people with these cars changed over after the rule came down? Where is the official manufactures list for cars that never had bucket seats? Do we just go off of say so from the experts , and experienced racers?

Re: Stock Seat Rule Example Question

Kelly--thats it !!! you cannot split hairs here---it is or it is not legal according to the rule book -- if its vague you have to get a ruling on it---

give ya a for instance here ---Years ago I showed up in Columbus at the Spring Nationals with a vehicle that was 250 pounds under the minumum weight of 2800 pounds . However the rule book said if I used an automatic trans in lieu of a manual trans I could weigh 250 pounds less than a manual trans car--- never ever said anything about being under the posted minumum weight for the class which I was the car weighed 2575 or 225 pounds less than the posted class minumum weight--- They let me run begrudgingly only after going round and round for about 2 hours of discussion. Guess what?? next week like on MONDAY they changed the rule to "AT NO TIME CAN ANY CAR WEIGH LESS THAN THE CLASS MINIMUM" regardless of the equipment used.
