Records show the MW and LW Galaxies still made an impression in A/Stock and B/Stock. I think most T Bolts had been ‘altered’ by 68. |
Re: 1966 Top Stock {S/S, S/SA, AA/S, AA/SA. A/S and A/SA}
Paul C started some great old threads.
I found this cuz I'm suddenly hunting for info on if the 63 Chev Z11 427/430hp was ever NHRA legal in S/S or AA/S, does anybody know? I've heard not enough built, but by end 63 there were 50 or 57 built, same as the 64 HiRiser Galaxie and those ran NHRA legal AA/S=7.00 class from mid-1964 on. Even if factored as high as 470hp, the Z-11 would still fit in AA/S at the NHRA weight I have of 3341 lb So why dont we see any Z-11s in S/S or AA/S? |
Re: 1966 Top Stock {S/S, S/SA, AA/S, AA/SA. A/S and A/SA}
Strickler ran S/S in '63 with his Z-11. A lot of those cars ended up in A/FX though and eventually became match bash cars.
AA didn't exist in the NHRA rulebook until 1965. AA was created to separate the factory package cars from Stock and relegate them to S/S. Super Stock itself wasn't a class until 1967. |

Are you sure Strickler ran S/S in NHRA in 63 or was that AHRA? I do know his Z-11 ran AHRA the Z-11 was legal there. Strickler won A/FX in his Z-11 at 63 Indy. AA/S=7.00 class was around at 1964 Indy but I've never seen a Z-11 with AA/S on it, no matter AHRA or NHRA. |
Re: 1966 Top Stock {S/S, S/SA, AA/S, AA/SA. A/S and A/SA}
For what it is worth, the 396/375 Chevelles, Camaros, and Novas were rated by NHRA at 425 horsepower, due to the rating on of the 65 396/425 Corvette. I remember having to weigh more than a 427 Fairlane in my 67 Chevelle. These cars were made obsolete when Chevrolet produced the 1969 427/425 Copo Camaro. I don't remember when the 396 rating was lowered, but Dwight probably has that information.

Arnold,
Your black '69 Camaro was as nice a race car that I have ever seen, and fast too! Frank |
