Re: Things you were bounced for in the olden days when there
Warner Robins points meet 1976 or 1977 the late John B. Two degrees too much overlap with the tried and true masking tape, felt tip and a Lufkin ruler method. Strange part being the cam had passed with flying colors once before doing it the dial indicator degree wheel way. Oh well that was drag racing. Sure do miss it.

Re: Things you were bounced for in the olden days when there
Ran a race at Atco in 1978 ish. Had a bolt in roll bar with the factory lap belts in my 68 Mustang. Busted in tech, was told I needed a 4 or 5 point (I forgot which) harness with that roll bar, fail tech. Went to the pits and removed the roll bar from the car, back to tech and passed no issues. Never did understand that one.

1971 Nationals, Farmer would not let me run my 1969 Roadrunner....He claimed that I should have side lights and not reflectors. (Note: 69's have reflectors and 68's have side lights)............He wouldn't believe me........Finally, I went back to the pits and found the build sheet that indicated side reflectors and he let me run...........WTF..........as if reflectors versus side lights would make a difference....LOL

In the seventies.
Multiple times they would write on the back of the tech card. Wash Car. Once at Bowling Green. Had wire cable wrapped inside spare tire (total weight was 80 pounds). Once at Englishtown. Lead in the muffler each one weighed about 100 pounds. In about 2000 Once at Maple Grove, for to little compression (dumb ***** tech people) |
Re: Things you were bounced for in the olden days when there
I was very young and not racing at the time, but I remember something about a 6 point roll bar as being illegal in Stock. My Dad had to take a hacksaw and cut the bar on the passenger side so it wasn't attached in order to pass tech. This was quite a few years ago,so I don't remember the whole story.

Gators in the mid 80'. Chuck Nelson working the scale. After 1st round pulled up and weight ok. Other NHRA worker (Dave Danis spelling maybe off.. )with Chuck said we haven't took a Div. 4 car yet. Chuck said take me,he's will past. LOL valve spring tester was off. Got kicked out. Thanks to Red Anderson who fixed the valve spring tester. After 3rd teared down. Gary Russel was sitting in at a pizza restaurant in (Ohio) when I went to tear down. Before he finished eating I came back by, Gary said ( I think Mike Walters) who he was eating with, Bobby got kicked again. Well not true Dave came over and said I just need a valve spring if you can get it off without taking the head off. Hell I will give it a try. LOL Back in the day will digitnal spring tester. Stories an memories. That is all we have..

Re: Things you were bounced for in the olden days when there
One time at Atco. We set the B/SA record. And the scales were light (40 to 50 pounds)
So we put some tools under the seats to make weight. The tech guy looked and found them. He handed them to my partner who handed them to me over the roof. I put them back in the car. We pushed the car back on the scales it weighed 5 pounds more. They scratched their heads and waved us on. |
