AFHS...and what's the point? It's worth absolutly nada. No points, no $, just a piece of paper...and about 5-6 hrs of your time to tear it down, along with $200 in gaskets/oil to put it back together in time to try and make Rd 1 the next day.

Whats keeping people from setting records now?

Many are unable or unwilling to take their car apart, when more records were set, there was a higher percentage of "go fast guys"

All the car were lined up in the staging lanes angled toward each other, there was a line to have the heads carb etc checked. It was the first time I saw a SS/K 283 run a 9! Tyler Cassel was there to run it with Robin Brown. Tyler 10.02, Robin 9.98? The scales were close. I always ran on the safe side. It was fun watching people working hard to run hard, on purpose. Fun times. The MPH for my car was very close to what I had been running, nothing funny for me.

I remember this race well, this was the first 9sec K car, and I think Tyler was running the guts out of that SBC to get the record from robin!! There was pretty much not any down time at all, you just went out and made a pass, almost like a Test and Tune! This might have been the same race i went into a bad wheelstand and bent both rims, broke tie rod, crushed oil pan and headers........

dad and I have been talking to the div 2 director and track owner about coming back.........(fingers crossed)

Stephen, if the air is that much better, then u should be running way more mph unless your running out of something :-).

No one ever set a record for the money except maybe an engine builder...anyway for the prize money.

In 2004 was there no AHFS? Did you get points? Money?

Re: Were you there in 2004?

I could be wrong, but AHFS came after 2004...or it was much higher (-1.40) before you got hit in mine shaft conditions!

Yes, back in the day...you use to get points for holding a National Record.

Never $...unless your engine builder or transmission guy had some prior agreement (without NHRA's involvement).

It was well before 2004 that you used to get points for setting the record. I think the AHFS has the majority to do with people not setting records. It shouldn't matter if you get points or money to set it. It used to be a sense of pride knowing you did it. As a class racer that in itself is/was gratifying enough. We loved the tear downs. Unfortunately or maybe not unfortunately we have a great program in D-5 with combo races on both days of our opens that pay really well. So I'd rather race then tear down. I wish we could have been in Montgomery.

2002 was better, that was the year the scales were "heavy" as well.
