Re: I Made an Engine Part !
Guys, and Gals... I'm having trouble even locating these scans ! ? !
I made a compilation video that summarizes the development and dyno tests. If you don't have to have 50's/early 60's pop music in the background when watching a car video... you may like this ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=yej7CwbvOUE The charts are in there, and are legible if you run the video in full screen. You can stop the video at any point, to see the numbers. |
Re: I Made an Engine Part !
Wow!! Job well done. That is awsome to see...a true hot rodder!!

Re: I Made an Engine Part !
Very nice...so you didnt say Aubrey, what was your overall feeling for the end result?

Re: I Made an Engine Part !
Wow. Very impressive. What a huge undertaking. Congrats.

Re: I Made an Engine Part !
I heard you were interested in possibly selling these manifolds. What would be the approximate price for them, and are they available in large port( 690 head or Edelbrock head) versions as well as the small port version?

Amazing job, that's a real hot rodder!

Re: I Made an Engine Part !
thanks again, guys.
Dion... nobody has ever asked that ? ! Leading up to it, was so stressful, that I was actually having chest pains ! When the Edelbrock Performer put 35 HP on the stock intake ? The stress really set it ! HOW the heck could a manifold change do more than that ? First pull with my intake, had a "glitch" / stumble. More stress. Second pull... 465 torque, 462 HP Disbelief ! Because I was still in a postion to finalize the carburetor height of the casting, we tried a couple different spacers. 1" open, then a 2" phenolic 4 hole. 1" did nothing. 2" made a few more HP, but gave up mid range torque. Relieved Seemed that just as cast, was best scenario ( I'm not that good.... just got lucky ! ) So, cooled the engine down a bit, and did a last pull a couple hundred RPM higher. 466.6 ft lb torque @ 4200 465.8 HP @ 5800 Still a little disbelief. Quite frankly, the A/F ratio numbers are so steady, I'm uncomfortable even posting them. Doesn't look real. To me, I think the angle of approach to these goofy, almost horizontal intake ports in the heads, can be looked after, ONLY with a single plane manifold that accomodates them. That, I believe, is why it worked. Hopefully, this helps level the playing field for guys with these engines, using small port heads. A modest, hot-street build, should be able to make 500 HP. Comparable to a similar built oval port BBC. That has never been able to happen before. |

Impressive! Congrats!

Aubrey, that is really cool.
Having raced orphen engines myself ,I have a special appreciation for someone who goes to these lengths to race their combo. Congratulations! |
