YEAH remember it well, ran Pure Stock in 19(oh)73 Then the Blueprinted cams replaced that because of creative cheating. Which is basically what we have today as Pure Stock.. But you make a point. Heck the new Mustangs can run a 9 second ET and can get 20mpg. Just need a Supercharger.. Dan |
Re: Pure Stock Challange - Ohio May 2014
I didn't need a supercharger.

Take away the light pistons and we had present day "pure stock" engines, it sounds like. |

Re: Pure Stock Challange - Ohio May 2014
That two piece, adjustable degree wheel was a slick deal. His little magnetic based, folding pointer was neat too.
First time Red tore me down for a record (The new Dallas track in Lewisville) he wouldn't let Carroll Caudle watch him check the cam. Carroll had machined my block, and did the "trick" (at the time) valve job, and built a lot of engines. Carroll helped me take it apart. I think Red thought Carroll did the whole engine. Made him go stand about 50' away while he checked everything. LOL Guess he didn't want Carroll figuring how to slip something by. Had me scared to death! LOL I could have threaded a running sewing machine. After that tear downs seemed a lot more informal. Red would actually joke around during checking it. Think some of it was to make me squirm. He got to be a friend. |

It was square topped to. My Bullet Cam is mild in comparison yet requires Stock Spring pressures. So you cannot go to wild. D |
Re: Pure Stock Challange - Ohio May 2014
We had to run stock spring pressure too. General Kinetics cam was my fastest. Spring eater. GM springs = two races. TRW springs = three races, sometimes four. My engine ('56 Chevy) was the 2-4bl 225 hp Corvette engine, solid lifters. The GK cam used .003" lash. Last pass of the day, check the lash before loading up to verify everything was up to temp.
