Re: Barrett Jackson and brains?
I treated my mom and step dad last year to palm beack barret jackson auction on Saturday. I was visiting and saw the ad on tv. It was a lot of fun actually to crawl around the cars. Some real nice, some good cover ups. Some messes I would not drive till I went over them. I found myself around the 68-70 A bodies and first gen F bodies GMs. Had a good following as I told my mom what I found here and there on the cars. Thank god she was a car fan before I was around so she put up w me for longer than I thought she and my step dad could, lol. It actually was a lot of fun for the day. A lot of pretty women there too. I'd go again. Some bargains in cars there actually on the right day and nice souvenirs too.

Re: Barrett Jackson and brains?
Fun to see the cars at these Auctions. I have been to Kruse in Auburn but not the really big stuff. Watching and Hearing the prices they sell for I just wonder what they say when they wake up from their Buying spree with a double priced car in the morning. Kind of like Vette prices at some of the local dealers showrooms...

Re: Barrett Jackson and brains?
I see many of the same faces every year at every auction.
Some people have way more money than most of us can imagine. They can spend it anyway they like and lots of people make money off it. America .....Capitalism is good for some.....not as good for the rest of us....I am not jealous and don't think they are stupid or foolish....They will die just like the rest of us and all their "stuff" will go to someone else and probably at a lot less money.... |
Re: Barrett Jackson and brains?
There are more rich people in the U.S. now, than ever before.

I can't afford the header tether requirement cost, let alone a "Barrett Jackson" car..... ;-)

Re: Barrett Jackson and brains?
I watched an hour or so of the auction. Some of the prices just baffled me. If you wanted an original, rare, desireable musclecar, forget it. They were getting bid WAY beyond any reasonable amount. Yet on the other hand, if you were looking for a top-shelf street/strip car without any pedigree, it was a buyers market. When Rod Saboury's 'Vette only got $180k, I turned it off. You guys that have built cars from the ground up will appreciate the amount of $$$$$ into this car.

Re: Barrett Jackson and brains?
Street cars like Sabory's don't bring big money. That's just the hobby. He had a ton in the car. Sabory also had it on Ebay for buy it now at $600k. Sorry, not worth it, never will be either.
The '67 L88 was one of 20 and NCSR certified. Neightbor's Bros restoration and real IT engine. I was expecting $3 million plus. Bubba Watson, the golfer bought the car. Why? Who the hell knows. Rick Hendrick was in there for a while in the bidding and then pulled out. No matter how you cut the cake, a '67 L88 is the top of the food chain with Corvettes..........except for the five grand sports made in 1963. The Steinman Bros. who owned the Vette paid about $600k several years ago for the car. I would say as a licensed certified appraiser that an L88 is a very good investment car if you have the money. I would love to own one. Jerry |
