Cast will work good, if they are prepped right. There are several folks that know how to make it "live long and prosper".

I tried something different for the engine I'm putting together now. I sent a 305 crank to Bullet for their" Index Grind ". It came back last month. $185 and shipping both ways. I have gotten good rod recommendations from people on here that have experience. I have used Manley and Lunati rods in the past but at the HP levels I made with my 305 engines they were over kill. Your first attempt on your own may only make 320 HP.
