I hope you redo the car like the picture, and not the plain boring day one resto route.

Its real, which is why I am hoping that somebody might have a pic or info. I would like to put it back to as early a date as possible (but in racing colors).

I don't really consider mini-tubs cut up, especially on the 66-67s since they won't really hold a big tire. I've got an A12 prepped by Vanke where it seems they thought the stamping contours were "cut here" lines. Glad yours isn't that way.

Thanks for the guidance on whom to contact. I will be sure and follow up. The tubs are crude enough that I have to have it fixed. I like the white wo23s, but am set on restoring it as Smokin Joe. Has anyone heard of or know of somebody with pictures or a personal connection? That would help the history come alive even more.....

It's been a while since I've visited this thread but.... I got the IBM card back from Chrysler historical yesterday. According to Chrysler, the car was sold new out of lenox Dodge in atlanta. Does anyone know if Lennox dodge sponsored a 67 wo23 car?

Thanks so much. alot of fun to look but no luck. I found a list race darts with Lenox Dodge's name on it. I am thinking that they may have been big in the racing scene. i also found a heartfelt obituary of Bill Tanner, written by Terry Earwoood. It said that the owner, BIlly Aiken,of Lenox Dodge got him (Mr Tanner) a Hurst Dart. I am wondering if this w023was "smokin joe" shortly after it was purchased or if it was raced under another name and then lost to time....

Here's some info I found on Lenox Dodge from old emails, nothing on 67 but shows they were racing before the Dart.

"Lenox Dodge", don't remember 63 but in 64 they had two lite-weight hemi cars. Bayne Culley drove the stick and ???? Bailey the automatic. Sorry I cant come up with Baileys first name.

I do not believe that Bill Tanner had a 67 car -you could check with Terry Earwood to be 100% sure. There were two 67 cars that I would check - Barnett's had two of them (I was told) - I believe one is in IL not sure on the other. Reid Whisnant also had a 67 car - might have been one of the Barnett's. I think that the 67 car was traded to a guy in FL for Reid's 68 Dart. If this is a possibility, let me know and I think I might have a little additional info - I have to check my files.

Re: Seeking info wo23

Thanks for your message. I talked to Mr. Earwood a week or so ago. He did not remember Bill Tanner or Steve Bagwell ever having a 67 car. I left a message at Barnett's shop around the same time. I am also trying to get a hold of Georgia Racing History (suggested by Mr. Earwood). No answer as of yet :)

Anything is possible right now. The only things that I know 100% for sure:

the car was shipped to Lenox Dodge by Chrysler (1967)
the picture that I have is from 1973 or after.
I have a picture of the car in the Alabama weeds in 80 or 81, when it got bought and brought to PA. From the looks of the photo, it had been sitting a while. After it came to PA, Jim Kramer had it, sold it to my dad. My dad back to Jim and then to me last year.

What I have heard but have no solid evidence:

A long time ago, my dad talked to guy in GA (name lost to time) who remembered a "Smokin Joe" with fuel injection The car was from out of town and did very well. My dad had also heard that the first owner died in non racing auto crash shortly after buying the car. Mr Thigpen then picked up the car and raced it.

My dad also said he spoke to Ronnie Sox during his research and that Mr Sox remembered beating the car back in its day.

If you have some records of a 67 WO car getting traded, its possible this is the car. If you need some other info to cross check, please let me know. I really apprecaite any lead or direction. The research has been a lot of fun so far.
