I'm going to suggest you look at I-84 to I-81 to I-80. Stay on I-80 at least to Toledo, go north on 23. Depending on the time of day when you hit Ann Arbor you can stay on 23 north to I-96, or go west on I-94 to I-69 then north to Lansing. You could even stay on I-80/90 to I-69 then go north to Lansing.
My credentials? I've lived in Michigan 25 years now, travel to PA/NJ or other NE points 2 or 3 times a year. I-80 is a straighter road with easier grades and less traffic than I-90.

I have to dispute that a bit, Marty. I-80 in PA is down one hill and up the next, versus I-90 in NY, which has one hard pull about 30 miles west of Albany, and a similar down hill about 20 miles past that. Other than that, it is quite flat. The drawbacks to I-90 are the tolls and lake-effect snow on the western end of NY. I would agree that it might be worth running the extra miles to avoid dealing with the border.

Got back a couple of hours ago. Left yesterday am 3.20 arrived via 90 route(didn't go through canada) at 4:15 PM 835 miles. Ohio has some nice roads and maybe the nicest rest area on the turnpike I have seen! Stayed the night in Cleveland then straight back.

A 100% drama free drive.

Ironically driving to Michigan seemed easier much than going to Atco or Englishtown!

Eric
