If your using Internet explorer on XP you will have problems
Get a new web browser installed and use it instead.
Google chrome works well

IT WAS a tried and true warhorse; not anymore.
Also, Microsoft stopped all supporting XP a year ago.
Therefore, by modern protocols, is not secure. It lacks ASLR that prevents vulnerabilities and hacking.

Also, there are no Oracle JAVA updates that work well with XP; therefore, there are many applications and websites that will not work unless you have the latest version of JAVA. This said, it will perform poorly when accessing many sites. Oracle updates JAVA frequently, however, like I said, the new updates are not compatible with XP.

I suggest for anyone that still has XP, to run the disk cleanup feature to see if it helps.
(Right-click, C Drive/ Properties/ Disk cleanup)

Also, the computer may have too many programs and services that are auto-loading and running in the background. Windows XP does not have the capacity anymore to do so and it's one primary reason for complaints of slowness.

The bad thing about Windows 7 is that all of your old software Quicken, outlook, datafacts will not run on Windows 7.....

Bill gates is a pretty smart guy to make your software obsolete...

30 years ago when Mac came out, all of the Apple programs wouldn't run on a Mac.........

Just opening up a revenue new stream........

and by the way it's called planned obsolescence

If you have Windows 7 or a newer version, you can use Microsoft's Application Compatibility Toolkit.

If you have Windows 7, you can also download Windows XP Mode which allows you to run older versions of programs designed for XP, to run in Windows 7.

They are free Microsoft utility programs that will allow older programs to be compatible with newer versions of Windows.

No animosity directed towards you personally SSDiv6...I just disagree with the bashing the often maligned XP operating system receives. Truth is the vast majority of businesses still operate on XP...disclaimer being the bulk of their work is for internal use. In this case familiarity does not breed contempt...it simply works.

The Vista OS was introduced to address those threats you cited earlier and was somewhat successful. Vista is a fine OS, but was ill received by the masses partly due simply because it was a change to what we were familiar with. The larger issue was the limited hardware built-in to the pc's sold to the masses which sadly continues to the present time...minimal memory installed is a sure fire way to cripple anything.

Win 7 is a wonderful OS, but in reality just Vista refined.

Win 8...oh boy. A corporate exercise to capitalize upon the growing mobile device trend. Problem here is it just does not translate well with the casual pc user. Sure, there are multiple workarounds to make it more user friendly, but many question why am I having to jump thru hoops. Expect another incarnation shortly.

Long story short...the simple act of using a pc on the internet these days is a war on your system. There are a good many folks out there trying to counteract the threats with varied success. I understand for the bulk of people out there one cannot simply throw up their hands in surrender...we just want to use our computers as intended. I classified those programs attempting to counteract threats earlier as bandaides...reality dictates that is exactly what they are. Yes, using them will somewhat extend the life of your operating system, but the fix is often just as intrusive as the threat. I personally resigned myself long ago to just wipe/re-install my OS when it all became unbearable. :)

Wow, thanks for all the info guys. SSdiv6 and Rich, thanks especially to you two, I'll try the disc clean up then possibly reinstall and see if something works. For now I'm opening classracer on two different windows and read one then when I click, switch to the other and read until I click, switch back and by then it's loaded..wash, rinse, repeat. LOL!

Oh, and I was already told my system is too small/weak/whatever to operate anything newer than XP so I'd need a new computer and that ain't in the future anytime soon...
