Re: 66 Fairlane Wagon Combination Suggestions

66 390 has a Autolite carb, iron intake, .430 something cam and 11.8 blueprinted compression.
67 390 has a Holley carb, aluminum intake, .480-.490 something cam and 12.8 blueprinted compression.
Both are rated at 319 HP. 67 390 is the way to go.

Re: 66 Fairlane Wagon Combination Suggestions

I looked up both the 66 and 67 Fairlane on OldRide.com for specs and they seem about the same. Wheel base and overall length of wagons are the same. Here is a quote from the text of the 67 article:

"For 1967 the Fairlane was the base trim level model. It continued to use the same body as the one introduced to 1966 but with minor trim changes. The new grille was an aluminum single stamping instead of the two grilles used in the previous model and the taillights were divided horizontaly by teh back-up lights, instead of vertically like the 1966 Fairlane. You could get the Fairlane with a 410-hp or a 425-hp (dual Holley four-barrel carburetors) 427 cu. in. V-8."

Looks like with some minor trim changes, that 66 could become a 67 and use that previously mentioned 390 with the Holley 4BBL. I think it's rated at 320 HP.

That Holley is List 3793 for the "A". According to the Quick Fuel catalogue, the SSR 585 VS is a legal replacement for it.

Edit: My 67 Ford NHRA Engine Blueprint file says that 390 is rated at 320 HP with 10.5 compression. The Holley carb is C7OF A,B,C or D

Ya know, the thing to do here, except for the problem of the NHRA not working this way anymore, would be to get the 66 motor de-factored to about 290 HP. It has more in common with the 63-65 390 which is de-factored to 280 HP from 300 than it does with the 67 390 at 319.
Dwight, a couple of months ago, we talked about asking NHRA to go over the non-competitive 60s and 70s combos and giving them some help. I think that this combo should qualify for that help.

The Hall's (I believe) ran a Wagon in G/SA several years ago. Apparently the combo was not competitive even though RJ's Sedan was one bad stocker. Maybe one of the Hall's or RJ could comment on why it wasn't a good choice.

Wheelbase is shorter then a coupe, they are built on a Falcon chassis with Fairlane sheet metal. We ran one in E/S in the very early 70s in Div 2 with a 427/410 until I put it on the roof on 7 inch tires.

Just out of curiousity, is the "fresh air hood" (factory scoop) NHRA legal on the 66-67 Fairlane wagon?

Yes, with the 427.
