I bought the bag of shot from Cabelas and after awhile the bag torn and the shot started rolling all over the place. Also had a car hit the wall at Speedworld years ago and the shot was all over the track. It was hell to clean up.

Jeff, in drag racing you are supposed to drive in a straight line; it's not a Demolition Derby! :)

I tape them up with a couple payers of duct tape. Had no problems.

I hope you guys are putting those bags of shot in weight boxes and not just in the spare tire area or under the seat! I've seen racers thown out for it.

I was working the track when the racers car crashed and I did the clean up. Come to find out the shot was in lower rear quarter panel pocket in trunk area. Wasn't seen in tech or added after tech. It was a super street car using ballast for ET reduction on 10.90 index

I have seen a car "leaking" lead shot from the rear quarter area before! Mr Ed I needed a couple hundred pounds so I figured I better get the 50# bars!

If your not putting it in the weight box, but building weight bars, it is easier to pour shot in the tubing than to melt lead bars in. Plumbing supply stores have lead bars, and round one lb. "pucks". I use square, or rectangular tubing for weight bars. I Tig weld plates on the ends. Weld one on, pour in the shot, weld the cap on the other end.

Re: AHFS changes after Phoenix and Houston

I have 2 weight bars made of square tubing with removable ends that I can slide the rectangular weights in. Combined I can carry 300# and an additional 100# in the weight box. If I get somewhere and decide to change classes all I have to do is take the end off and slide the weight out or add some. Oh yeah the square tubing weighs 50# a piece so all together that 500# of ballast I can add.

Seeing this thread refuses to die,...beat this:

Two pieces of railroad track @ 180# ea.,
100 with the box.
100 in the back bumper..
and that's for the lighter class.
