Re: Another bogus new car in the guide!
As I noticed the pic posted in the other thread about this, I was thinking GM will probably sell quite a few of the BIW kits along with the SS trim. ( for those not wanting to run in the FS classes)

Re: Another bogus new car in the guide!
No kits. You get this and then you go to work.

It's 2010 all over again.
Hey, at least it's not in F. :) |
Re: Another bogus new car in the guide!
For NHRA, it is all about getting "new blood" in our sport and increasing manufacturer involvement. We "baby boomers" with the old muscle cars are not the future...but we have some great memories.

Re: Another bogus new car in the guide!
Andrew - I'm not sure where you're going with this but one thing is stands out - you won't be seeing many of these as far as I can tell .This Camaro SS may look great on paper but it seems that the current crop of Camaro's out there can't convert over to this engine without a huge bankroll and I just don't see that happening .That plus the 350 that is used in the COPO is a much better piece after looking at the specs .
Someone that wants to race a new car would be much better off with a COPO ....Or even a COPO clone . |
Re: Another bogus new car in the guide!
I wonder how many 2015 Camaro body-in-whites are left ? Isn't the 2016 Camaro built on a completely different chassis ?

I have heard that the only carry over part from the Gen 5 to Gen 6 is the deck lid emblem! I doubt that you will see any COPO/CRC cars getting converted. The production cars have a cowl. Replacing that would be a pain. Also, the NHRA has mandated a 12-bolt for this combination. My opinion on the new "production" cars is not that there is any kind of conspiracy. Instead, as I have said many times before, there is a movement of very positive folks out there that want to see these cars in the mix. These cars give the average guy a COPO/Drag Pak/Cobra Jet alternative. As Jack said, the COPO 350 is a much better combination at this time. It would also be a bunch more expensive to build from scratch. |
