Of course he'll have lane choice too.
Better think this one through again.

Some of these new DOT drag radials work pretty good Mark.
The only dis advantage is the weight.
On a 9 sec. stocker the slicks might be better, but there are 7 and 8 second street cars running DOT radials.

I already run DOT legal M/T drag radials on my T-Bird Stocker at NHRA events.
It runs low 12's and the car runs almost the same with 30 inch bias ply slicks or 28 in. M/T DOT drag radials.

Go for it then .
7 and 8 second street cars are not "bracket racing".
Tricky DOT's cost almost as much as real slicks, don't they?

Class RACING needs your expertise now more than ever. It's going to take all involved to keep s/ss alive as we know it.I feel I can say this due to have given 7 yrs. to trying to keep a level and fair playing field.in all classes by enforcing the the rules as written. So the next time you talk with a tech person or race official.why don't you thank them instead of talking trash. They are there out of the love of the sport ,without them there would not be an event.Good luck to all in 2017 and may the win lights be plentiful in your lane.

As a Soccer Ref..when hear complaining about our Referee Staff.
I mention there are plenty of employment opportunities for those that think they can do a better job!

Re: Suggestion for New Pure Stockers

Mark,
You needed to look at #1 stock oem size wheels - just easier to get a good sticky tire for larger wheels in a drag radial. As far as working good i took a lot of lunch money off of guys with slicks to my drag radials but any way just some thoughts on getting more people involved in class racing. Go to a test and tune or street night i do not know were you are but here in this area New Jersey the lanes are full of late model muscle cars just looking to get involve in something more competitive.

Tires are a sorted out issue. No need to relitigate.

The real issue is teching a new Pure Stocker.
Remember a few decades ago some new Cadillac FWD cars set their respective national records.
Ordered to tear down the owners had no idea how to do that.
They had to get a Caddy specialist (then rare) over to pull it apart for inspection, then reassemble!

Teching our cars is about adjudicating fair play.
This is why we need to talk and come up with solutions!
Not only to expand Pure Stock but like a Jim said .. S/SS especially for the future.

That's all good, Tony
If you want to run DOT's , great...but don't take away your option, when the guy in the other lane doesn't have the same restriction.
Next, we'll take up the stock converter business.

Re: Suggestion for New Pure Stockers

I see that NHRA has set up a new Class Requirements they call Pure Stock.

Designed to help track requirements for the new super cars that go quicker than 11.50 ET.
By passing the need for a mandatory Roll Bar.

The new cars have a much better frame.
Some come have a Built in Roll Bar to meet sport car and autocross track requirements.

This is one of the conversations that has to be resolved.
A/PS minimum is 12.05 a full second under is 11.05 sec.
Well set up car in Mineshaft conditions could get a car well below that.

I can see inviting some turbo and supercharged smaller engines.
Most aspirated cars could fit below the current 11.50 et.

Again how do you fit these cars in?
Most likely approve a few at a time.
Select a couple each Ford, Chrysler and GM and grow from there.
Again would need serious support from these car makers to give up specs and collaborate with IHRA.

This is where we need help on who to contact.
Maybe get NMCA to help a bit to expand their race series.
BTW who would be that person at NMCA?

Re: Suggestion for New Pure Stockers

Dan,
I would start with the cars that are already listed in the NHRA guide.
2010,2015 camaro ss, 2011-2014 mustang 3.7 V6 and the GT ,challenger
etc. I think all they are missing are oem cam specs. As far as NMCA you could try Gene Bergstrom (technical ) 714--460-3813 e-mail gbergstrom@promediapub.com

Re: Suggestion for New Pure Stockers

What is the HP rating, if it is even in the IHRA guide for a 2017 Mustang GT, 5.0? What class would it for, index, and weight?

I can't seem to figure this out for IHRA.

Interest in running this combo at s/ss combo races, maybe an IHRA event. Looking into a PS option for local combo races and really just wondering if it can run under the index almost bone stock.

Matt
