Re: AV gas ?

This subject came up on the Moparts board also and someone pointed out something I had not thought of,.AV gas is most always a lower specific gravity and the carburetor float levels have to be checked / changed going to and from AV gas.

Re: AV gas ?

AV gas is not made for land based water cooled engines. It's a bandaid on a gunshot wound. Mix race gas for better function.

Looks like the FAA is close to finishing the phase out of 100LL . Originally supposed to be by 2023 but of course there was pressure to phase out sooner . Might be as soon as this year . I wonder what all the older planes that were designed to run on leaded fuels will do ?

Look up FAA to outlaw 100LL and do some reading. Various companys are working on unleaded versions. Yo gobment at works folks. John Kissel K242

My dad's 1967 C182 has the mogas conversion although he's always run avgas. Not sure what the conversion entails, but that might be an option if/when 100LL is phased out.

I work with the FAA the last 10 years.
They and NTSB are very thorough about safety.
You can go on YouTube and view the newest aircraft engines.
They have impressive features any hotrodder can appreciate.

I have a tid bit for you guy's who may or may not know - if you purchase any race gas at the pump don't expect it to tech at an NHRA event - I believe the problem to be that the tank's being vented to outside air does something to the SG of the fuel - Just my $.02 from my "OLD LOG BOOK" - Bob

I have seen the same thing. I only buy mine from sealed drums.

Rod: If 100 Octane Unleaded is sufficient...The Arco Station in Boulder City has it at
the pump.

Re: AV gas ?

AV Gas will not pass NHRA fuel check, there is no spec card because it's not an approved fuel. Approved fuel that checks perfectly out of a freshly unsealed drum will not pass tech if left open to the atmosphere for even a very short period of time, less than an hour for most. If you're running a class that requires fuel check it's best to get it at the track/race and keep it sealed up tight and out of sun light if it's in plastic jugs. If there is any doubt have the fuel check guy test it before you put it in the car. Another tip, if you run a car that requires fuel check DO NOT EVER put unleaded fuel in the tank as it will contaminate the entire system and your "good fuel" will not pass until you've completely flushed the fuel system several times with good fuel.
