Definitely some engine changes for those cars in that year range. Early ones had the aluminum intake manifold with forward facing throttle body, later had a plastic intake with throttle body facing the driver side. I believe the plastic lower intake on the later ones is the same as Mustang with just the aluminum upper elbow being different to point to the opposite side. Both intakes are pretty restrictive. The plastic one also always cracked and leaked water, I don't think the updated part number with the aluminum water crossover is in the engine specs, would need to go through the process of getting that approved. There should be a cylinder head change somewhere in that year range, the ports got straighter at some point, I think around 96.

I was thinking the 96 Mustang 4.6 combo was more favorable that the 91-95 combos

Easy enough to figure this one out.
I'd like to extend an invitation to this fellow to bring that thing to the US Nationals.
There will be a fella there named Travis Miller..Long time Ford man. He'd love to check that car out.

Oh most definitely. The one rub is the cracking intake I mentioned. I think also look at it from the respect of when they fit the same class with the same engine, hence the same weight, punching the smaller hole in the air has to be beneficial. Plus that Mustang bodystyle has so many more engine combinations if a change is ever desired.

That guy's own words in recent months on a Tbird/Cougar forum:

"it has a big cam, big intake, big compression, big heads and big cubes"

"TFS intake, TFS heads, 90mm maf, 3.5" intake tube, 75 mm throttle body (too small), Bullet custom cams, 12.5/1 comp ratio,
big bore/stroker 5.3 Liter, Eagle crank, eagle rods, SHM 1 7/8"-3" long tubes, 4500 stall converter, 4:56 gears. E-85 for fuel."

Best running 2V 315, I mean 281, I've ever seen.

I think worse than that, a 323. Looks like the 3.75 Eagle crank plus a 3.7 bore.
