Re: NHRA National Event Purse
I looked. I don't believe it's any more than what we were running for in the 90's. $13-15K if you had the car stickered halfway decent then. Do they cut W & RU for a 6 round race now?

Re: NHRA National Event Purse
Not sure what payout are now,
My RU in stock at the NW Nationals in 2015 paid $1200 from NHRA. With contingency I think I pulled in 3K for the day. Winners contingency paid $300 per sponsor/RU only $100. Probably could get 9-11K with a win and maxing out all sponsor contingencies available. We sure don't do this for the money! But it was great memories, and worth every penny to play and to make it to the finals. |

I would assume health insurance for their workers also. BP

Re: NHRA National Event Purse
I was told a few years back by a reliable NHRA employee who would know the facts that the sportsmans insurance payments covered the entire National event insurance costs.
That means the spectators that might be injured in some way, basically everyone inside the gates for the entire event. It is not for the racers only as that coverage is only a excess coverage policy after your personal insurance is exhausted. Just My 2 Cents |
Re: NHRA National Event Purse
Charlie as always I miss you guys and say hi to your Dad for me. Lets face it NHRA is not going to put anymore money in our purses unless somehow they are forced to. And I don't see that happening. We just need to get them to market us and see if we could attract some more sponsorship monies. There is a local indoor car show this month in the town I'm in. It's a small town but they get 10,000 plus people to pay admission to get in on a Saturday and Sunday. It's fifteen dollars a person and 5 to park. Plus food. At every race I've been to we have a greater car show than this one. BP

Re: NHRA National Event Purse
I know the insurance is a big expense. Last event I did at Wild Horse, I had to pay K&K $1200-1300 for just one day of Sportsman type racing .The first thing they wanted to know was if we were having any fuel cars. When I said no, they told me I was getting a much better price then.
So, as if we didn't know it, we're paying the heavy surcharge because of the fuelers. Theoretically, if we were to split off from the Pro's , we'd be paying a smaller entry fee. Ya think? ;-) |
Re: NHRA National Event Purse
Unless something has changed. Insurance doesn't pay the Helo joy ride for sportsmen...Might a Pro... Might want to check into that insurance your paying for.
Unless they were picking on me and made me pay mine. You might want your own policy to pay for what they don't. Never can tell when you will need it. Quote Mark Y. "Theoretically, if we were to split off from the Pro's , we'd be paying a smaller entry fee. Ya think? ;-)" If you don't go you don't pay it. Your choice... Just saw this on my local track FB page.. There is a track 65 miles from my house paying out: $2,000 win $400 Ru $100 semis and $50 Qtr in Super Pro with an $87 entry fee $40 buy back 1 or 2 round. Also a Q-16 for $100 entry no buy backs pays $1000 Win and $400 Ru 7"0" and 6"0" Index classes pay each $2000 Win $300 Ru an $100 semi for a $87 entry $40 buy backs 1st or 2nd rd All in one night. a guy could run SP, Q-16, & 6"0" index for $274 and run for a total win purse of $5000. Only $354 if he has to use the 2 buy backs. Probably do it all in less than 20-25 laps, too. If this is going on all over the country I'm taking it in the shorts supporting the NHRA pro's. I think it is time to check my ego and go have some local fun. |
Re: NHRA National Event Purse
"We sure don't do this for the money!"
I hate to hear guys say this. NHRA loves this attitude. Their response is "Great!. We won't pay you." It implies that the Sportsman have no value. True, most don't rely on race winnings to put food on the table. But people work hard, invest a lot of money and bring a great show to the track every weekend. And they deserve an opportunity to race for a purse that is appropriate. The Company has all these marketing experts on the payroll, they need to figure out how to market this asset. I won't hold my breath. |
