Some of you may remember Don Carter from South Carolina who ran C/SA in the nineties with a red 69 Nova, one way to remember him is he looked like one of the Oak Ridge boys. Anyway Don had a headsup first round at the GV divisional in that period with some one who had him covered a bunch. I asked him in staging if he had a plan and he stated he was going to pray, the faster car broke in the water.

How does engine temp play a factor? I see everyone putting ice on the intake and fuel regulator, pushing their cars through staging. What is an optimal engine temp?

If your fast enough to hurt your AHFS average, you need to slow it down. My car is fuel injected. I use a FAST XFI ECM (computer). They will hold more than one "tune up". They sell a selector switch. I just use a toggle switch. Race tune, and a Slow Down tune. I just flip a switch while the car is shut down. I found adding weight to slow it down effected my lights. Pull the weight for a heads up, and problems with red lights. Less timing & leaner is how I slow mine. Same lights. Bias to Radial tires effect my lights too. I stay on radials. Same lights. I had a restrictor plate, but guess I was ratted out. One of our tech guys found it in the staging lanes, told me he "Didn't ever want to see it again!" I considered simply leaving it out until after going through tech. He checked for it again between rounds in the staging lanes. LOL

Many, many years ago Lee Bannister was kicking Azz and taking names in stock eliminator. Lee usually qualified near the bottom of the ladder and one year at the Gators he had a heads up with a much faster car. The faster car just blowed the tires off at the hit.....Lee must know the same prayer....

Sorry for my ignorance but why is a restrictor plate illegal? I find it odd that something to slow you down is a problem.

That seems pretty goofy to me. They going to outlaw a bolt under the gas pedal next................... Seems tech isn't sure what to do with EFI combos so they go strictly by the rulebook.

I was the faster car in NC one year and lost to Mr. Carter heads up. It was a long drive home. And a very quite one at that.

Had one. Popped the end off a throttle cable, since thin carpet with no padding under it, made WOT at the throttle body happen before the pedal hit the floor. Put a stop in for the pedal. Made a shim for the stop by tig welding a flat washer on one end of a short piece of 1" tubing. Glued flat washers inside to stop at 80% throttle angle. Last shim was cut out of magnetic black plastic, to help keep it on. Maybe ratted out again. Was checked for WOT in the staging lanes right away. "Put the pedal to the floor, Ed!" He pushed the Throttle Body WOT from under the hood, when the pedal didn't.
"Don't want to see that again, Ed!".
Do it in the ECM tuning now.

If a RESTRICTOR plate is illegal, then there are NUMEROUS cars in D 3 that are ILLEGAL,,,,
