Re: Fram Racing HP8 Oil filter

Through the 46 years of my Engine business Fram filters seem to be the most common filter my customers have issues with, esp in endurance type applications. if an engine leaves my shop it has a Wix, NAPA, Baldwin or System 1 filter.

I also don't use passenger car oil in my engines either. Haven't had any lifter issues since that change. Presently I have been using Lightning Racing oil with good result as well. They are a company local to me that makes billet rods and has developed some good racing oil to compliment their rod line.

I used System1 for a couple of years, instead of cutting a filter open, to throw away at the end of each day of running the car.
I had the guy from the Sunoco lab check my System1 filter as well. It did not catch as much trash as the WIX, nor flow as much. Very suprised.

I just did a freshen up on one of my engines using the system one filter and the lightning oil. The bearings were perfect with well over 200 runs. I re used them on the pervious freshen but put a new set in this time but probably didn’t need to. Really shouldn’t be any trash in the engine unless something breaks. I am sure the Wix filters are good but I will stick with the system one. Works excellent on a drag race engine and saves some money in the long run. My engine shop uses system one on his own engines and many of his customers. He runs top sportsman and spins those big inch engines almost as hard as my little small block. I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say they lost an engine due to the system one filter.

Countless problems traceable to Fram filters over the years. From OE stuff in the old dealership days, to stories of guys tearing up equipment at the track due to filter failures. Even though I've been told the HPs are different from the regular filters, I won't take that chance.

Spin on filters - Wix, NAPA Gold, and I see K&N used on a lot of high end stuff.

I've always used System One on my stuff and like the ability to maintain it weekly to catch any problems early.

An oil filter to consider is the Pure Power Billet filter.

10 years ago. We will NOT use them again!

K & N on all our stuff!
