Ask IHRA how that worked out for them !

That is because the S/SS community did not support IHRA.
Did not help that IHRA shot its foot off with limited Marketing Promotion.
I showed up to most of the races I could reach.

Not much difference than Mike Beards ClassNationals.
First year was an awesome event..timing killed the next one.
Fault myself for not supporting it a second time.
It could have added a difference.

NHRA did not support the CM and PS classes.
Which could have kept IHRA alive.
Purest snubbed the classes and NHRA saw this.
Now the new threat is all Class racing as we know it will be eliminated.
Especially since NHRA owns us!

I am not sure if you were racing in the early 80's when IHRA had a fantastic Stock and Super Stock program . Their National events were great and had sportsmen fields that rivaled NHRA . That changed in a big way when Billy Meyer bought the sanctioning body and dumped Stock, Super Stock , and Modified , and replaced them with index classes like 12:50 , 11:50 , 10:50 ...etc . They did that for several years until Meyer sold the business and the new owners put Stock , Super Stock , and Modified back in the program and kept Hot Rod , Super Rod , and Quick Rod . Problem was that they never got the Stock and Super Stock racers to come back in any quantity . Some of those racers probably left with a bad taste in their mouth , having spent good money to run some of the IHRA classes that didn't have a direct cross-over to NHRA . That's why NHRA will never drop Stock and Super Stock , they wouldn't want to lose a big portion of their base .

I never understood why NHRA racers did not support IHRA Stock and Super Stock.

Some nice tracks with a reputation of treating racers well.

Yes I was ...living in Georgia or Florida ..everything was NHRA
Dumping S/SS was not a good idea and they did it again.
Just a matter of time when IHRA goes away.
Their competition are the associations no longer NHRA.

Instead all 3 index classes, SC, SG & SST will run a 64 car qualified field.
With 80 cars in each class, 16 cars will not make the tight field.
NHRA is doing this in a effort to save time, and pit space during their ever growing NHRA National events.
LOOK for updates soon.

O wait a minute, it is not April 1st yet!!!
Why did I post this in Jan, Please Disregard this till April 1st. LOL
Thanks again
Cal

Good morning all.
I hope that most of you found this humorous.
That was my intent, as Stock Super/Stock racers can say limit or do away with the index classes as nobody watches them anyway. There boring.
We are all just fill in for the big show, and a stroke of NHRA's pen can do what?

JFYI I do have 2 Super Stocker to.

I tried to support them. Ran several races. Mostly small tracks I had never heard of. My IHRA HP was the factory rating, so I could run well over 100 lbs lighter. Much slower index. No AHFS, so I took the extra weight out to get a bye the first round. Was told, by an IHRA tech guy, to “bring gaskets next time”, after I qualified 1.5 under their index. “You NHRA guys just like to come to our races to just show off & try to make our racers look bad!”! Really? These small tracks did not appear to be terribly successful. Small rural tracks, that could not support big races anyway. IHRA made them pay their fee for getting to have one of their special races, before eliminations started. Car counts were so small, I wondered how they were going to pay up anyway. Same thing I saw at AHRA races. We had nine SS cars at one. I am not going to embarrass the track owner, by naming the track. I had tested their during winter a couple of times. Warmer down there, than here.
He asked me to hold the check for a week, before trying to cash it. A local race the next weekend would give him enough to make it good. Several local friends knew about it.
It never would clear, so I tossed it. Did not badger the gentleman about it. Decided I had enough IHRA. Being accused of cheating was not flattering, either. Glad they went belly up.

That is too bad...
My experience was good..
made a few bucks and always paid cash end of the day.

Did not get torn down.
But sure looked over the car just about every race.

My experience was good with IHRA as well. The southeast division was growing every year. I managed a win, runner up and some late round finishes at a few of their races. Always got paid and contingencies were paid much faster than with NHRA and all paid. Purse was also higher for winner than NHRA. I was sorry to see them fold.
