Re: 327 300 1965 stocker
Jim, we know what good 327-275's make so what we're looking at is....
-the difference between a good AFB and a good QJet -what (if any) difference there is in the cam (.399/.399 on the 300 & .390/.410 on the 275) -what (if any) difference there is in a good AFB intake compared to a good Qjet intake The 327/300 @ 265 isn't horrible. But the 327/250 is the same engine (except for the 4G) and intake and it's @ 245. I don't see the AFB covering the 20 hp difference, even with the intake being a bit better on the AFB.....given the current state of Stocker intake technology. But .60-.70 under should be no problem for a decent 327/300, though. -Al |

Re: 327 300 1965 stocker
10 - 15 years ago = 1.5 x factored HP in Stock
AND.....................= 2.0 x factored HP in SS NOW DAYS: Better figure at least 10 or 15 % Higher. To be competitive is getting tougher AND more expensive every darn year! If all you want is 6 or 7 under in full race mode = 375 would probably do it with that combo If the two fast I/SA last week at Winters had meet in later rounds = It would have taken at the very least 1.15 to 1.20 to be even be competitive. (I know the cars and my boy owns one of them) |

Just curious...
How do Aluminum and Iron Headed Lt-1 Engines fare in Stock? What power levels are they getting out of them? D |

She can drive and the car is fast but the LT-1’s have been hit many times with HP putting them at a disadvantage to some other traditional older cars and some new combos. The LT-1 benefitted from a low HP factor for years and could dominate classes. There not slow by any means but the HP factor today makes it tough. That’s for aluminum headed combos. I know nothing about the iron headed versions. I raced one for a couple seasons. |
