My experience is to break the gears in with conventional stuff first.

I used Dexron in Doug Nash 4+ 1's for years.

Many of the newer OEM stick shift transmissions require ATF. Seen too many people go to a quick lube type of shop and have the ATF replaced with gear lube and then have problems shifting.

Had a neighbor complain at one time that he had the lube on his stick shift car changed and they had damaged his transmission because it was difficult to shift. Had him show me the invoice and they had put 90W140 gear lube. Asked him for his owner's manual and it showed it required ATF. Told him to go back to the shop and have them replace the oil with ATF. He came back and said the problem was gone. Told him he and the shop were Morons; him for not looking at the manual and the shop for not knowing what they were doing, especially with a kid working at minimum wage.

Gibbs Qualifier oil, drag race applications never get gear lube up to operating temps unless you use a heater so the qualifier oil is the best compromise.

There is a straight 50w gear lube available for HD Truck transmissions like Eaton-Fuller, we used it religiously up north in the oilfields, I've often though it would be a good balance between normal 'thick' gear oil and dexron or engine oil, as I've known a few guys that ran 5w20

With you guys up North, even airliners have to use a different fuel and turbine engine oil! Many vehicles require even a different type of power steering fluid to operate in cold weather.

I have never found any rear end gear lube that performed "better" when doing the late race hot laps and for wear protection then Mobil1, 75W90 full synthetic.
I use the same in my RWD vehicles.
I used to go through at least one gear set every season; now I still run the same 9" ford Pro Gears that I ran 20 years ago.
Ask the rear end set up guys in NASCAR.
