Sounds hinky, but worked for me. They are not easy.

Be careful with Chinese copies of good compressors. The metal isn't the same and these tall springs can cause them to fail at the worst time.

I think you must have been working on a 79 or newer Mustang platform, with the coil spring between the K member and lower control arm. Those are a real PITA, especially with tall grag springs, like the Morosos. There is a factory Ford compressor that works well, but they are hard to find, and expensive. Your method is how I did the front coils on my 85 Mustang and 78 Fairmont. But, I believe the original poster is dealing with an early style shock tower Ford, like a Mustang/Fairlane/Falcon, which has the coil spring above the upper control arm.

I put the Moroso coils in the front of my 71 Cougar. P A I N. Had to cut the coils cause it sat too high. Cut too much off, sits low. Used a compressor that they loan out @ the parts stores but even spraying lube on it , it got hot and had it bottomed. The one that goes down thru the center.

When using a spring compressor or a puller lube the threads with high pressure lubricant like some rod bolts use.
