The neck collar was for fire safety, Not for neck support. That is why you now have to run a head sock or helmet skirt with the head and neck restraint.

Once I read the differences between the neck collar that does nothing and the Hans type restraint. I was convinced two years ago to get one. It only took a few passes to be able to get everything off on my drive back on the return road.

I've been using a HANS type device long enough to have to have it recertified. I bought mine after I watch a friend roll his SC car when the center broke in his rear wheel. After talking to him a few days later, he told me his neck wasn't even sore after the crash. I really like how it spreads the load of the seat belts across my shoulder area and not just where the belts ride.
When I first got it, it took a little extra time to get everything hooked up. Now it's easy-peasy. I remember when I made to switch to an open wheeled car, I thought the arm restraints were going to be too restrictive also. That is definitely not the case.

My routine has actually been to leave the Necksgen connected to my helmet at all times. So far it has seemed to simplify the process.

Nothing to do with this thread but Tony you were kind of hard on me yesterday in earleville.:D

That was a great race, Gary! Keep making that pass and things will go well!

After wearing a HANS during the Cecil County race, and finding it to be a great distraction, I switched to the Simpson Hybrid for the Maple Grove race, and found it to be an instant night and day difference.. I also went with a helmet skirt, but found that it doesn't seem to allow enough fresh air into the helmet, which resulted in glasses and visor fogging.. I'll be switching to a head sock for the next race..

Stay tuned for further hunt and peck results..

The HANS will now be living in the RV, should anyone need one at a race I'm attending..

I need to try that one Like you said the one I was using flat out sucks. I don?t have a neck anyway, so it seems to ride the helmet and gets snagged sometimes. Definitely felt unsafe wearing it in the very tight confines of the Porsche so I just picked a spot to dump and kept it just under 150 so I didn?t have to use it. Same one in the Alfa isn?t as bad because I have more room. But would still like to see the difference in them.
