Re: lightweight battery recommendation (non lipo/life)
I ran Total Power’s small 12volt battery which is an aircraft battery made by Concorde and its junk as longevity is concerned.

Re: lightweight battery recommendation (non lipo/life)
Every car that I've raced for the last 30+ years (except the FWD stuff) has had a Deka 850/1000 CCA battery. They're made in Pa. they last a long time and they'll start almost anything. I can live with the weight penalty.

Re: lightweight battery recommendation (non lipo/life)
Before switching to 16volts in 2022, I ran AC Delco batteries in my door cars for 30 years, same spec as Billy’s Deka and I never had a bad one, failure or missed round due to a slow cranking or dead battery.
The fact is the small, lightweight 12volt batteries just do not have the cranking amps that the full size batteries do nor do the last as long. |
Re: lightweight battery recommendation (non lipo/life)
I've been running the 11 lb Braille batteries for about 10 years now and they've been great. I do have two, one in stock location and one in the trunk. Not sure I'd trust just one at only 360 cranking amps, but they have a 21 pounder with 550.
I've left the fan and water pump on for a couple hours (twice in one weekend lol) dragging them down to 20-30% and they charge right back up. The ones in the car now are from 2020 so I'll replace over the winter. |

Re: lightweight battery recommendation (non lipo/life)
In my bracket car I ran 1 optima and 1 motorcycle battery (11lb) with alternator. Didn't know if it would work. 2 seasons later motorcycle battery gave up.
But be a stocker is the correct size battery need to be in stock location? |
Re: lightweight battery recommendation (non lipo/life)
Iv'e been running a single 11 lb. Braille 12v lithium with an alternator for years. No issues .

Re: lightweight battery recommendation (non lipo/life)
I've been using 2 of the Odyssey batteries with no issues. They are 2 years old now. Keep a maintainer on them and only charge at low amps. Not crazy about lithium ion batteries.

My XS battery works great, use it in two different cars, and never put a battery charger on all weekend of racing. weight is about 23lbs

The OP said, Looking for a lighter battery option but not interested in lipo/life type.. Any recomendations? Yet, your response is, not worth the $ nor effort, nothing to be gained on the time slip. So, that's some irony if I've ever seen it. |
