The idea of mineshaft is that the weather is stupid fast for everybody
Including you slow poke
When you have more than 50% of the field going 85 under that means it?s freaking fast out there

Mineshaft is more helpful than harmful

hey hey hey, no name calling lol

Anyway, fair. I can see the importance and necessity of a mineshaft rule. Maybe more generally, when the mineshaft rule isn't/wouldn't be in play, why do we not have AHFS at all of those races too? Like Indy, National opens, etc? Also, what defines mineshaft air and who makes the decision on when the air is too good?

Read post 12.
When more than 50% of the field goes more than 85 under.
It used to go to the mineshaft rule.

By that definition Indy 2024 was a mineshaft. More than half the Stock field was over a second under.
The relationship between AHFS and indexes is out of whack

As you are not allowed to notch pistons for valve clearance, NHRA saw fit to make it illegal to allow your valves to do the job.

Exactly, which is why I asked the clarifying question. If there are that many people with the ability to go 1.0+ under in terrible air, maybe we don't have a mineshaft rule until AHFS has a chance to catch up and get some combos in line.

Sounds good. But, in reality, having the mineshaft rule in place allows less runs to fix your average. Without the mineshaft rule you can fix that 1.00 run on a good weekend. Ask me how I know....

So slow your average at ?slow? races! Mineshaft rules are for extremely fast weather conditions that don?t occur often.
