Or maybe I guess I just figured it out Stock Super Stock is the combo & the non electronics & electronics is for the bracket race. Its been a Monday on a Friday my brain is fried!

Jim Woods 05-16-2008 09:02 PM

Re: Southern S/ss Association

Trevor, lol, you did figure it out, the bracket races are electronic and non electronic. the combo is strictly no electronics. anyone who loses first round in combo race has the option to buy into 2nd round of the bracket class if they choose to.

Just to let everyone know... Sunday morning we'll be having a non-denominational Chapel service in the grandstands at 8:30. We didn't get the info to the printer in time for it to go on the flyers, but God Speed Ministry will be there and EVERYONE'S invited. Bring your coffee, I'll supply the donuts.

Car is ready. Picking up the trailer from my brother's shop tonight. Need to take care of some last minute details with it as I'm borrowing my father-in-laws truck. Provided everything works right my son and I will be loading up and heading out tomorrow night. Any reasonable hotel/motel suggestions? Diesel is bad enough and looks like holiday weekend pricing for Sunday night at nearby places.

Who else is coming?

Re: Southern S/ss Association

Gary,
There are a few motels one exit further West of the track. One used to be a Holiday Inn but I'm not sure it still is. Glad to see you got the car ready. I'm bringing the Neon out for it's first pass. Should be fun! See ya there! Jim

for those of you that are passing thru kissimmee on the way, old town at I-4 & 192 always has the sat. night car show and cruise with oldies bands and no car newer than a 78 .lots of neat cars and motels right next door with plenty of parking. we usually go there on sat nights. its free and really a neat place. it is only 4 miles from my house and 18 miles from lakeland track. if you want to meet up just call me and i will be there 407-953-8810,

Jim Woods 05-23-2008 04:02 PM

Re: Southern S/ss Association

also , lakeland dragway will be going back to the old days and establishing new track records for all of the s/ss classes.they will be sending certificates after the race. its time for the fun to return to class racing.

Thanks for the info. I booked a room at Days Inn over in Plant City. Most rooms were booked or highway robbery rates the closer you get to Disney-trap.

Just picked up the trailer after waiting for 4 hours for the F/C guys to show up . Lesson learned:

Rule 1) Never trust fuel racers with your stuff.

Rule 2) If a fuel racer ever asks to borrow something and promises to bring it back in the same condition, or "fix" things, refer to rule 1.

Gee Jim good thing I'm reading this now instead of before the race. I kept wondering if that big black box in your trailer is where you keep all those low ETs. (Sorry I couldn't resist:rolleyes:)

Even though the track surface was tricky, I had more fun today than what should be legal!! I'm also glad you didn't discuss RTs... mine really sucked today. I think I left my brains back in Plant City. Hats off to Jim Woods & crew. They did an excellent job. We'll talk later this week.

I have 250 pictures I'm going to try to figure out the easiest way to get them up where all can see them. I'll try to get a sample up today, so stay tuned!

I want to thank Jim for all the hard work putting this together and everybody else that worked. I had a great time. The last time my car ran Super Stock was 1974. I almost loaded up after my first time run when I was .6 over the index and breaking up all the way down the track. I sat out the second qualifying run but after retarding the timing a little I was only .3 over the index on my second qualifying run and not breaking up as bad.
I got quicker every round until I broke out.
Thanks

Re: Southern S/ss Association

Thanks to all who came out and shared a great day with us! Yeah, it was hot! It's a good thing I have A/C in the race car! Congrats also to Dana Summerton, who won the Perfect Light award in the third round! This 17 year old is gunna be tough! Tina is probably still smiling. On the way home I was thinking, I am so thankful that Jim Woods (our new Association President!) worked so hard to make this happen. Jim made hundreds of phone calls and emails for us to be able to do what we have only dreamed of doing in the past. Hopefully this was just a beginning, and what a great one it was! I want to thank all of you for electing me VP of the Southern Stock/Super Stock Association. It is a great honor and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will do my best to help Jim continue to make these races the most FUN you have ever attended. Please email me with your suggestions, comments and ideas for future races. It's up to all of us to help promote these races, so if you had a good time, tell another racer and get them to come out to the next one!

Special thanks to Gene and Lakeland Motorsports Park for hosting our first of many races. Also to the many worker who helped with the track prep, staging lanes, ticket booth, concession stand and medic for no pay!

After elections at the meeting on Sunday, here are your officers of the Southern Stock/Super Stock Association:

President and Race Director..........Jim "Tanker" Woods
VP........................................... Jim "What round is it?" Wahl
Sec/Treasurer..............................Tina "I don't have a pencil" Summerton
Photographer/News Letter.............Sean "Where's my camera" Hanning
Co Race Director..........................Tom "Super Wagon" Ward

More to come!!!!!

FYI
Just for the info of those who were not there, the '32 Hot Rod in the above picture decided to show us what kind of rods were in that small block Cheby on the VERY FIRST pass of the day! This caused a rather long down time due to the fact he also dumped oil down the entire track's right lane! Yeah, Thanks Buddy! Jim

The show went real well yesterday despite traction issues. I would have really liked to particiapated but my time will come. Congrats to the winner and thanks to Jim Woods for organizing this. I really hope this takes off, it would be killer if we could take the top guys in our association and run the top guys from the Roxboro/Piedmont Association.

Re: Southern S/ss Association

First off, let me say that I'm sorry for being a .90 racer hijacking this thread. I would love to race a stocker , but right now the .90 classes fit my budget a little better. Anyway, I am glad I was there to witness the first race of the Southern S/SS Association. Other than the clean up that was required after the first pair of bracket cars went down the track (and I realize that is something that will happen from time to time and can't be helped), what a great day it was. Jim Woods deserves a big "thank you" for organizing the association and promoting the race yesterday. Gene Garmany and the staff at Lakeland Motorsports Park did an outsanding job of being the host track for the first race and making it run smoothly throughout the day.And last, but certainly not least, John "Hammer" Leichtamer. That man teched all the cars and then worked the staging lane area all afternoon, and I know he had to be tired at the end of the day. A great job was done by everyone involved in this effort.

I'm just glad I got to be there to see it happen and improve my image by hanging out with my "low life" Mopar friends from Grand Island.

Also, I should say "thanks" to Sean Haning for photographing the race and posting the great pictures here for everyone to see. That must be a tough camera you have because I see that you got Sean Ward in a couple of the pictures and the camera still worked after that. Simply amazing.

All of you involved should be very proud of what you have created, and best of luck to you in making this organization a success.

Again, a HUGE thanks to Jim Woods and hats off to the rest of the crew!!! No politics, no protesting, no fuel check, no scales, no hassles!!! For those who missed it, you REALLY missed it!

C'mon....almost $5 per gallon on diesel, then get treated like our division people and Glendora are doing us favors? Screw that, I'm going where the fun is!!!!!

And Lakeland wasn't all bad. I've experienced a lot worse. Besides, I don't remember meeting a track staff as friendly and helpful. Like Jim says, the more we support this program, the better it will get.

I had a ball!! maybe that's why I drove so bad LOL!! Enjoyed meeting Smitty, Hammer, Merrill, Pat "I'm trying not to hit your bumper" Clifford, Reggie Winkles and the other stick racers. Smitty, I still have your shoe polish. Jim Wahl needs to give me a wake up call next time, or get me a GPS for Christmas (you know what I'm talking about HA HA HA!!).

Gary,

It was my pleasure meeting you also. I really enjoyed myself with all the racers! I even explained how stock and super stock classes worked to a couple of bracket racers. I tell you what I think Drag Racing is the best sport in the world, you want meet nicer people for the most part. I think what we had yesterday was the die hard weekend guys who do it for fun. I didn't see any big ego's yesterday, just guys who want a place to race.
I can't remeber your name but the gentlemen with GT/EA Firebird, I want you heads up when I get the engine in the Mustang LOL! Just kidding, I can't wait to get out there with you guys, I hope we can get more folks involved. I'm working on my mentor John Douglas to come out to a few races, us Ford's are out numbered down here.

For those who don't know, John Boyer's first round competition's car wouldn't start. He elected to go to the rear and wait. Get this! John's crew got his competition' car started for him! Now that's sportsmanship! Way to go John!

Thanks to Jim Woods, Hammer, Gene and Trish from Lakeland Motorsports Park, Gospeed Chaplain Joe Sannutti and everyone else who contributed to making this special event! My brother Paul and I enjoyed hanging out with Reggie Winkles, Rusty Gillis, Gary Smith, Robert Hardee, Mark Ruset and so many other great people! Congratulations to winner John Boyer and runner-up Jay Slane. Great performances from a number of other racers including low qualifier Doug Patrick, Dana Summerton, Rusty Gillis and Rebel Kidd.

Paul and I are excited about this series and hope to have our car ready for the next one! We especially appreciate Jim Woods for his vision and his labor to make this happen.

I would like to add that was the most Fun I've had at the races in a long time. Congrats to the Mongrol and hope to see these races continue. Dana was shaking pretty bad after each pass but she is excited and ready for the next event. Her very first race and gets in the money and cuts a perfect light Wow!!! Tina says she is honored to help make this series a success. There was absolutely no difference in the race compared to a Lucas race except I had $ in my wallet when we left and it was a hour between rds. instead of 3-4. Can't wait for the next one!!!!!
