Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Man. I sure hope you guys don't rip me up like this while i am at the races working.look at it this way ,at least you have a choice. If i h r a was not here you would not have many options left . I race and work and very glad we have places to race at. Just can't please everyone , "at least not at the same time" .i work for i h r a and sometimes do not agree with some things they do ,but somehow we all get through it or get over it .1/4 mile racing is a lot of fun ,but i for one do not want to see anyone get hurt. I bet if they ran 1/4 mile and something bad did happen ,then you would be on here bashing for a bad call to race 1/4 mile. Can't we all just get along and just give it a try. Then you have that choice that i was speaking of earlier to go or not go ..sorry for the long vent here ,just think you should give it a try .

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Pittsburgh ran Fuel cars there before they added 300 ft. to the finish line ,TV tommy Ivo ran the first 5 second dragster there in the early '70's....Let TS &TD run 1/8 th....It's not too short for the rest of the sportsmen.
|
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Its not too short, its too bumpy. Get over it! Also a "National event track" should have more than individual wheel scales in the gravel. Thats obsurd! Its also WAY too short beween the water box and the starting line even though you drive a hundred feet outta the lanes down to the water box!???. And I've cooked the brakes on the motorhome twice getting from the turnpike to the track. But hey, they do have really nice lighting! But I'll never go there again..

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Pittsburg is just like every other race track, there are good and bad things about it. Here is a good one that I heard from a customer of mine: He told me that he heard that Quaker City did not have a Pro-Am this year because they didn't make any money at the 2008 divisional!! All that I can say about that is WTF??? If they didn't make any money at that race.........that means I have never been to a divisional that has. It seemed to me that there were more spectators there on Saturday night than I have ever seen at any Pro-Am. Moral of the story is I think sometimes we don't always get the whole story. There has to be reasons that IHRA didn't go back to Quaker City and Milan. Whether it is IHRA's fault or not, it happened and we have other choices. I really wish that they did go back, but there are tons of options for us living in division 3. We have division 1 and 5 as realistic alternates, remember you only have to run 4 in division races.

it was wall to wall. they had to make a killing.

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Jeff,
some people's idea of Not making money is different than what we think.LOL Chip |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I am with you guys. Quaker City had to make money. The stands on the right side of the track were full and there were people clear past the finish line watching. I walked by the concession stands and there was always a line there as well.
I hope everyone gives this new format, new division layout, and race distances a chance. How 'bout 1000'??? |

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I am puzzled as to why San Antonio didn't get even a nibble. No national and no divisionals, could it be the 1/8th mile problem? I know the attendance was poor at last year's national but could it have been that bad? Any one know about this? Lee:confused:
|
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I was suprised San Antonio wasn't listed. At least Div 4 races are all 1/4 mile. The Tulsa national event is 2 days this year. No more cars than showed last year, should be no problem getting it all in.

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
San Antonio???
Could it be no more Live Nation Connection. HHHHMMMM Chip |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Live Nation is not affiliated with the track. What's that got to do with anything?
It was always the longest hike I made, but I enjoyed every trip to San Antonio. |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
It was the closest track to home. Is'nt Live nation based out of San Antonio?

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
As was stated on here before......if you have a 1/4 mile facility, why race 1/8 mile for a points race? I'm sure your weekly bracket program there runs 1/4 mile!! And I'm sure there are bracket cars running 150mph+. If IHRA or the track operators are concerned with the stopping distance, then lengthen it.....or smooth it out as is the case with Pittsburgh! I personnally like racing at Pittsburgh! They do, however, need to get modern scales! I said this last year and I'll say it again this year! They've got the space for it, put them in before the triple race weekend!! Not only do you get bad readings, but it takes way too long with the scales they use!
I say let Stock, Super Stock and Hot Rod run 1/4 mile and the rest can run 1/8 mile if there is concern about the faster cars getting off the end of the track!! |

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Im a bit confused on the 1/8th mile stuff as well here in D5....no one up here 1/8th mile races...you have drive like 3 hours or more south to find an 1/8th mile track. Personaly I dont mind it, but I will say this, the majority up north here hate 1/8th mile. I have seen a bunch of them load up and leave when conditions have forced a track to go 1/8 th for a bracket race..not to mention most .90 guys up here have no 1/8th mile data.
It will definatly be intresting to see if they choose to come try it...or stay home. shooter.....guess were gonna find out!! |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Ed San Antonio was dropped. No National event or divisional. It sucks because it was the closest to us. I guess the new Dallas track will be closer for you at least. The rumor is SA couldn't buy off the guy who owned the land at the end of the track. Were going to go test in December. Finally got the parts to go try it again. ED

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I guess Milan decided not to have a National or Divisional, and has nothing to do with jumping sanctions.

Be happy you have places to race. Who cares if it is 1/8th or 1/4 mile. Either way you have to have the reaction time and be able to run the number. I think the way the races are set up is great. This will allow me to run Hot Rod in Div 5 and Super Rod is Div 3. It sucks Milan is gone. Since it was only 90 minutes from the house. But, you just have to roll with whats given to you. Just be thankful.

I'm glad to hear you go your parts. Hope to see you and your son at some races next summer. Hope I can afford to go. Bizness has slowed down some here. Wanted to go ahead and bore it on out to .060" over and put some light pistons in it. Heck I may be lucky to have money to run it like it is. At least gas it cheaper right now. I topped off the motorhome for $1.52 a gallon. Hope I get t use it. <G> |

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I can lend a little insight to the people who were wondering about Quaker City. Last year they had a huge crowd on Sat. night. The pro-am had a little over 200 cars on Sat and about 180 on Sun.
The number of spectators on Sat. seems to be the issue. Unlike most tracks the "night of thrills" or "night under fire" whatever it was called this year, took place along with the pro-am. Quaker was given a percentage of the gate for all the spectators. There was a large dissagreemnent on the amount of paid admissions. Rumor was they were told 4800 paid. Management believed the number to be much higher. This is where the hard feelings come in. Possibly where the QCR boycott of the brackets finals comes in also. There were still some "feelings" from yrs ago when the Div. race at Dragway 42 was to be moved to QCR but instead got moved to Milan. As you can see the two parties just can not get along. |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Joker,
Thanks for the insight. It seemed like there were at least 5,000 spectators on Saturday night. Like I said in my earlier post, someone made a lot money that night. I was there and actually won stock that night. We had to come back to the staging lanes for pictures. It took what seemed like at least an hour to get everyone out of the stands and under control before they could get the pictures all taken. I have never seen so many people at a division race in my life. It is just a shame that they couldn't make it happen again. Even though the jet show was a pain in the butt for us racers, it obviously brings in spectators, maybe they should do that more to keep these races making money. Then, maybe, they could pay us more, LOL!! Jeff Day#3731 |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
who was working the gate at Quaker? was it their folks, or was it someone else?
I am pretty sure it was their track employees at the gate when I got there on Friday afternoon. |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Saturday morning around 11 am IHRA took over the gates. That in itself was a hassle. Anyone arriving before 11 could not get a pass to the pit side because the "night of fire" tickets were not available. IHRA had them. It is a shame there will not be a race there becasue it is one of the nicer facilities. Thompson on May 1st ??? great scheduling.
|
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
Yeah, it took me like at least 30 minutes to get in on Saturday morning about that time.
Also, it could very well be snowing May 1st at Thompson, or being Ohio, it could be 80! I can say that I have been hearing two things about Thompson Raceway.........Everyone is saying that the traction is very good and that they made a wise decision going 1/8th mile for this race. I for one can't wait to find out! Jeff Day #3731 |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I went to an NSCA race at Thompson in '07 to run the Jeg's S/SS race. Track seemed to be in great shape then in my opinion. I think it was in August, so it was pretty hot too. They had some "street" cars there running 200 mph in the 1/4. At the finish line, the track starts to drop off, so you do have to be careful. The return road kind of winds itself back like clay city.
I don't remember what kind of scales they have. Track is also out in the country too (compared to alot we go to) -unless I went the wrong way to get there! |
Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I would bet more for snow than heat on May 1st. Its sort of close to nowhere. Alot of the roads have an extra lane to the right with a green trail down the middle of it, if you know what I mean LOL Be Carefull towing you might run up on a buggy at any minute.I hope IHRA re-sets the roll-out cause last yr. the 60' were at least .03 quick and the roll-out was about .040 loser than any other track. I have a budddy who does very well up there. These numbers were confirmed through him. 1/8 mile was a no-brainer.

Re: IHRA Pro Am schedule posted
I see they have once again stacked the Div. 9 races. Still a TBA date though.
