BINGO!!!

Bruce Fulper 05-31-2007 07:25 PM

You're dreeeeeeaming if you think there's ever going to be a Sportsman TV show for us. Why? No one has been able to see profit in it yet - not even Lucas - so what makes you think someone will magically "see the light, er, profits" from airing one now?

I'd do it if I was rich and had the spare change - cause I love it and I know I could make it fun - but TV money big profits? Look at that Ted what's his name and those Mequire shows with Big Daddy. Low quality, low budget. sure ok to watch but admit it.........Ain't the big profit which brings in the top quality producers which begats $$ and on and on.......

crap. So much for the allure of being in the "big show."
That's over. Get ready for chipped up Divisional racing.......
zzzzzzzz.........oh boy...now there might be 50 people in the stands on Sunday that aren't family members.

yeah, yeah, yeah,...I'm there to concentrate on racing - but I'm sure there's other people that feel like I do. 30,000 people in the stands is fun stuff.

The way see it is the Glendora Mafia made a pretty slick business deal. (for themselves)
They made a $100,000,000 extra profit this year and kept the "non-profit" business so there is no chance of having to share the sale money with the membership and they will now give thierselves a very nice bonus above the usual because they have done such a great job of making a terrific deal. On top of that they keep the cash cow since the sportsman racers make them the lions share of profits anyway.

Since we the sportsman racers are use to the way things are now with the existing payouts and high entry fees nothing will change for us.......business as usual except for more "enhancements" which will equal more Glendora Mafia profit and bonuses.

In short nothing will change for us.

just my .02 cents

After reading through that announcement (3-4 times?), clearly the focus of this transaction cherry-picks the best what NHRA had to offer: the PowerAid Series, broad licensing rights, merchandising rights, practically anything that had or will have entertainment value. Hell, HD Partners even got 20,000 hours of drag racing video, 4 race tracks, and the building in Glendora. I wonder if NHRA will be paying NHRA Pro Racing rent?

NHRA will still be the sanctioning body, so if NHRA Pro Racing wants to race top fuel garden tractors (for entertainment of course), will NHRA have to sanction it?

On the other hand, if the new NHRA can package sportsmen racing to the local tracks in a better format and support the tracks by employing more tech and safety people (with that $100M they received), then sportsmen racing will benefit. IMO, sportsman racing and the local tracks is what makes drag racing the sport it is, not the Power Aid series (circus?).

Sportsmen drag racing is made by the racers, not NHRA...

>> (with that $100M they received)

What DOES a not-for-profit do with another $100 Million dollars, when they will still presumably get paid for their 'sanctioning' services to the Pro branch, get the membership and associated fees, and still operate Divisional races as an outside promoter that the tracks have to pay for the privelege of hosting?

There are alot of what if's here. Some believe we will now be enhanced out of our shorts, some seem to believe this could be good in the form of higher payouts etc. for the sportsman racers. Truth is no one really knows.

But food for thought :
The same west coast chiefs that run the whole NHRA now, will be the ones that would, for the most part be running the sportsman side of things after this takes place.
So we only have history to go on. Will the same guys that sat up nights figuring new rounds of enhancements suddenly develope a >>sportsman << conscience ?
The more $$$ the NHRA had in the past, the more arrogant they got. Is 100 mill the tipping point that makes them >>racer friendly << ?
Does 100 VERY LARGE buy a person/persons some humility ?
Do you guys really think the >trickle down< theory is in play here ?
Will the sportsmen ever see any of that 100 large ?
Has that been the past mindset of the guys that now, ( or soon will ) have 100 MILLION DOLLARS in their pockets?
Not really a good bet in my book. But hopefully I'm wrong.

P.S. with 100 big in their pockets, do yo think they could buy their own oil dry now ? At 250$ a bag of course. [:-laughing-:]

Prior to the 100 million dollar deal, I see there was "11.5 million in debts and liabilities". Maybe things were'nt that rosy in Glendale afterall.

retracted but still a load of BS!!

Pomona is leased property on the LA County Fairgrounds, i.e., the land is owned by Los Angeles County, and will continue to be. What would you use Atlanta for, other than a racing venue? It's too far from any city for a housing development, and the same could be said for Columbus. Gainesville, who knows.... Indy is probably the most valuable property in the whole package.

T Janes 06-01-2007 10:27 AM

triffith The land that he Pomona tack sit on belong to The County of Los Angeles. Nhra has a lease agreement throught the Los Angeles Fair Commision until about 2022.

tgriffith 06-01-2007 12:04 PM

One of the things I noticed was at the Senior Management level we will still have some of the same people involved in the Sportsman side of the racing... So sorry and sad to see that and I think we all know who some of them might be. Doe's a light go on or a bell ring when I say that????-------------Comp 387
