Fast Johnny,

I can make a copy of the sheets and drop it in the mail to you. NC. I'll pay for the stamp. Pat Shaffer had the sheets on Saturday night.

[QUOTE=Larry Hill;126477]Jack their is still time to enter Norwalk.

Larry -- After two weeks of rain I've had enough for awhile ............ besides if I came to Norwalk I'd just get a job on the ' paving crew ' ---- I understand there will be openings .Thanks anyway .........besides , I can't run AA/SA with our Trans Am........

Angie -- I'd be very surprised if they opened up entries ... but in this economy you never know .

Todd-- It was good on the part of NHRA officials not to keep us all day before calling it -- most got to enjoy Fathers Day with family instead of sitting in the rain .

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I finally rolled out of there at about 11:30 after watching the parade of rigs stroll on past. I live about 40 minutes from Atco as the back roads go and never saw nor felt any rain the rest of the day and well into the evening. We even had some spatters of sunshine or at least that's what I think that bright yellow orb in the sky was.

They did say all classes and ladders are set..
Sorry folks but why should racers be allowed in after the fact.
You guys where smart enough to watch the weather.
But its not fair to us racers that showed up.
You guys should have taken a chance.

Hi Joe,

can you post a list of every AA/SA & AA/S car since the beginning of 2008? I'm wondering how many cars would actually show up for a shootout if we had one.

That sounds good. Then maybe us smart guys can show up on Thursday too and throw in $25 each and have a Smart Guy Stock Eliminator race as a fill in.That will keep everybody busy.

So punish the racers that guessed right on the weather and close the field.....In these hard times it seems as though NHRA is shooting themselves in the foot again !!!!!!! As a business owner myself I would think the track owner would like to have more customers paying twice at the gate come October..

Dave Ficacci 06-22-2009 08:40 PM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Lets just say they reopen the fields. Now you have more people showing up than normal to get to run two races on one weekend (remember maple grove divisional and open a few years ago with 140 stockers on the same weekend.)
Think about the cluster F that would cause giving everyone 1 time run, plus alcohol and running the entire race on Thursday...
Most certainly they would not finish in time, and schedule the remainder of the race for Friday morning. Imagine the bitching you would have from people that show up on Friday and only get one time run instead of the usual 2.

I wasn't even there and I agree with closing the field.

I count 10-12 that would participate with a legitimate shot to win. Depending on the location of the shootout, 6-8 is more than likely.

Fuqua and Cradduck are driving the same car, it's just different drivers. There are a few more examples of the same car with two different drivers on that list, I think I picked out 2-3. A lot of the 396 cars probably wouldn't run a shoot out, a lot of them cannot get light enough.

You were correct in the other thread, you could not do it at Indy. The index puts too many of them at risk of a DNQ. It is the price we paid when Len asked us what we wanted for an index. We knew that would be the case, but felt the trade off was worth the risk of a DNQ at Indy.

So I guess it's to discourage more racers from coming? Just turn it into a four day event....If anyone can make it happen Joe Sway can. I was at that Maple Grove race and everyone I was with had a good time.

Joe Sway is a smart businessman.I'm sure if he could twist Rain Man's arm the right way the field will open up and both races will go off, weather permitting.

Oh geez, I guess NO ONE is going to show up at the fall Atco divisional now. That's what they get for playing hooky.

And Ed, why are you complaining? You weren't even planning on running this race anyway.

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

tech is closed...no new entries...that is just the way it is...

It was the same case at the Virginia national a couple of years ago when it was a gauranteed monsoon. I didn't want to waste the time and fuel to go sit in the rain, just to have to go back the following weekend. But if I wasn't there the first time - EVEN THOUGH NO ELIMINATIONS WERE EVEN CLOSE TO HAVING BEEN RUN AND I HAD ALREADY PAID MY ENTRY FEE - I was not allowed to attend.

I was told by several NHRA officials that it wasn't fair to the racers that attended and endured the hardship in week one. They were "rewarded" for their support. I thought it was silly then, and I think it's silly now, but thats the way they roll. PS: it doesn't matter that we never saw a ladder...welcome to random pairings...

BTW, unlike Jack, I think 9:30am Sunday morning was a bit early to call it. I don't think they did anyone any favors. At that point, we had all wasted several days of our lives. Once they didn't bail on Saturday afternoon (based on forecast), I think it was imcumbent on them to stay till at least noon on Sunday. As it turns out, reports from locals state that it turned out to be a more than raceable day.

And I'm sure there are good reasons, but there are NO opportunities from now till October? Lebanon is next week, and the next D1 event is Cecil at the the end of August. Thats almost two months, for crying out loud.

If you couldn't guess, I won't be able to make the resceduled event thats being run almost FOUR months from now...I love divisionals...

Lastly, thanks to Dave Ley for trying to give us a nice race again...

We are talking about October for crying out loud!
When everyone rolls in the gate that morning I think we will have a good idea what the schedule will be.

Was there any word on if Dave is going to reschedule the $ 10,000 dollar S/SS race?? I'm a S/G racer but always enjoy going down to watch those races cause Dave puts on a great show...

Hey Dan what was this rumor I heard you had a meeting with the higher ups at NHRA about the sportsman guys?? Don't know could have just been a rumor but I heard it throughout the grapevine at the Maple Grove Divisional

Dan, I agree with what you are saying. What I don't understand is the economics of it...why turn money away...it's bad business...and NHRA has always done this.

This from the Div. 1 website:

Quote:

Atco Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Rained Out
Due to the inclement weather throughout the weekend, the Atco Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event has been postponed to October 2. The fields are set and no new entries will be accepted. Stock and Super Stock first round will be random pairing. On Friday morning, we will give ALL competitors one time run and then run the first event to completion. Saturday Morning there will be one time run followed by first round eliminations of the second event

Should make everyone even happier.

Even worse, running the make up on Friday. Now your taking runs away from the scheduled race, which might make some racers think twice about paying $170 for a shorted race. Thursday seems like a better day for the make up. Also gives you an extra day in case of rain.

Alan,

I think the only place to hold such an event would be Bowling Green but it would have to be a "stand alone" event just for stockers, even then who would do the tech?

I was running a Stocker in Super Stock. I wonder if I'm allowed to change cars for the make up race. I didn't plan on running that combo any longer than 2 races. Just wanted to go a few rounds. With random pairing it really shouldn't matter. Does anyone know?

David -- Seems were in the same boat as I was planning on racing a different car the second half of our season -- the rules, I believe, allow you to change cars but you must run the same class that you started in ....guess we better look into this further .I'll keep you posted .

Jack, At division 5 makeup race at Great Bend, Ks. this weekend, Super Stock and Stock, returning driver may Reregister in different class but remain within their original eliminator category, must Retech, Tom

Thanks Tom but I'm pretty sure for the make-up race Tech is closed..........Somewhere in this mess there must be a 'grey area' we can play in .

PS-- I've played in this arena before -- you must re-register in the same eliminator and class.

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

The lockout for the first race is to prevent racers from entering it and going home, leaving the October race pretty much vacant. The way it is structured now, you can finish the June race but, to stay for the October race, you would, obviously, pay another entry. Two entires for basically one race. There is not enough time to get all of our qualifying runs for both races. Friday will be a bitch of a day, running a complete race, plus, the October race! I hope none of the Alcohol cars break. The June race should be completed at Cecil on Thursday.

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I understand - rules are rules - no argument with the closed fields

but I've asked this before -

I know tracks are busy being booked solid - but why wouldn't an important race such as this have a dedicated rain date scheduled that doesn't interfere with another important race?
