Last night I was witness to Big Daddy blasting down the Cordova 1/4 mi. in his A/SA Mopar. Pretty impressive to see the legend back and running a stocker. After his tune up at the World Series, can't wait to keep an eye on him at Indy. Looks like he's havin some fun!! Mo-Par to ya Mr. Garlits...

question is, would Stock get as much ink as they are getting for Indy if Garlits wasn't running Stock, No
That's sad!!!!!!

And to have him 10th on the pick list is a farst, all it was getting was ink and attention!

You know, if Don parked down with all the sportsman racers then he would draw a lot of spectators down to the boondocks and see other cars and develop interest in the sportsman ranks.

Re: Don Garlits

I saw the runs at the Cordova World Series and the rev limiter is an issue for sure. Larry Griffiths car did a similar thing on the dyno last week. Says he won't race his till all the bugs are out. Quite a few other things kept the times in the mid 10's. Both the cars are sweet though and when they get tuned in it could be something to see. Larry got 30 hp at the dyno and is going back for another shot soon. Don's runs got slower the more they played on the laptop. Not much about the performance on the post on http://www.moparspeed.com/
I got a photo on the web page though. Fun for me!

Saw the picture of Big on Dragraceingonline looks like the car has a cage in it. How about the open face helmet I thought there was a rule on that at the beginning of last year. I know people had to buy full face ones. Not trying to be a smart ***** just a observation. I think him being in stock is great for the sport would love to line up against him. Hopefully he will be in Vegas.

I wonder who is trying to help him tune it? Of course, going backwards tells you what it doesn't like, which is about as important as knowing what it does like.

Big Daddy is parked right across from the concession stands in the bowl. Nobody else parked around him this afternoon.

IIRC, the full face rule only applies to cars with a class index of 9.99 or quicker.

Re: Don Garlits

It's not the index. It's what your car can run. My index is 10.80 and was told by Wesley the first time he see's my car run 9.99 I better have a full faced helmet on. Not there yet, but hoping to be soon.

If other elder ex-pro drivers race in S, S/S will they increase their coverage to at least cover their runs? Then they would have to explain to the audience all about indexes, dial-ins, and head starts, etc.

This might turn interesting.

If I remember correctly, ESPN did some coverage on Jason Line in Brainerd when he raced in stock. Now this is way bigger than that, in my opinion, so I would assume there would be some coverage.

Can't wait to see it. Good Luck to all in Indy.

I have this feeling that the blower CJ's are going to be getting the most attention w/the #'s they put up, rather than the Challengers...Like was said previously, Tasca's CJ has been running consistent 9.80's up here in New England for the past month, and there are going to be maybe even some better ones than theirs at Indy this wknd.... I may be completely off here....that's why they line 'em up, right?:D WJ

The rev limiter is an issue in both Don Garlits and Larry Griffiths' Drag pak. Saw Don's run at Cordova World Series and I was a little bummed. 10.36 was the best time and it was the first pass. All the passes (4) total all went mid tens. Saw Larry's at the Dyno and when the limiter kicks in it dies hard.
The more they played with laptop on Don's car it slowed but Larry's got 30 more hp and still working bugs out. Larry won't race till its right. We will see what Don's does at Indy.

Sounds like Big needs to put Ed on the redeye to Indy.

This is purely a marketing gimmick to sell what's left of these on the lots and hasn't he already had a detached retina affecting his vision. I also don't get this comment "few redlights due to the fear of having to run "Big Daddy", which may apply to the old timers, but I think the younger races would agree with my first two statements.

Just my opinions

.007 first round of class. If Fletcher would have taken your advice, Big would be going to the second round.

But that .007 light showed that while he might be old, he ain't dead. I hope it keeps him racing that car for a while.

Bummer that Don didn't get in the field. I'm sure it's 130 spots lower than he's every qualified before.
