Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Patsy,
I'll be there on the 32nd. Hope ya'll have a large time up there, looks like it oughta be fast. |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Weather channel has conditions at 30.21 Barometer, Dry bulb 52 Degrees F and Dew point is 50 degrees. Looks like this is some great stuff. Probably the best of the weekend. I expect to see the new mustangs put some 140 MPH speeds on the board,if they keep there foot in it. Wish I could be there.

Patsy & Larry:
Thanks for the awesome pictures and updates. clearly your picture taking and journalism techniques are superior to my buddy Jack's! LOL (just kidd'n Jack). Best of luck at the Big Go and pls keep the photos coming! Dean |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
It is a beautiful day here at Indy. Lots of people came in overnight and they are parking them now. Larry has gone down to fuel check to make sure he's good, since he got DQ'd last week at Bowling Green. Well, he just got back and we are good to go.
I am going to keep times today, so I can see the MPH. Since that isn't posted, I will let you know who is sandbagging. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Larry and Patsy,
Thanks for the great coverage and the photos. It stinks not being at Indy, so it's nice at least see some of the people and the action. Unfortunately, I had to skip it this year. Hopefully I'll make it next year. Good luck to everyone. Thanks, Evan |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Larry & Patsy
i am setting here this morning crying in my coffee that i am not there, so your reports and pictures are the very next best thing . i have not missed Indy in years so it seems strange not to be there . All of us home bound folks appreciate the info. should have my stocker going in a couple of weeks and hope to make the fall classic and hope to see y,all there. excuse any typos and spelling, not much on posting. THANKS wayne hutton |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Heard a Blown Stang went 1.39 under in A/SA. Maybe we should have a CIC race at Indy? :)
Correction, I guess he went 139 MPH!!! Was 1.26 under. No Factory orders here! I give them all credit, if you don't hang it out at Indy, what are you saving it for? |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
147 cars made an attempt to go down 1st qualifying run this morning. Those with problems: Teuton-don't know what happened, Kevin Walsh-broke rear end probably, Defrank-broke on line, Gary Emmons-left before tree activated, and Big Daddy was pushed off the line!
Times should be up shortly, but it was fast. Lots of 1.20 under. New Mustangs--Holzman AA/SA 9.63, 139, Holzman A/SA 9.96, 133, Nicholson A/SA 10.04, 135. New Challengers--Johns A/SA 10.14, 119, Duell A/SA 10.13, 117. So all us old cars are as they say "sucking hind ***". But at least I think we are in the show at 10.19 and -1.10 under. Oh the air was 1595'. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
I put the word for breast in sucking hind *** and it censored me automatically!
|
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Thanks for the notes on the CJ's and Challengers, Patsy.
I just hope Bill Dedman and the rest of the anti-CJ crowd don't see those numbers!! |

Thank you, Patsy! You know that warms my heart. Scott is there also... I'll tell him to stop by and say hi. He's not racing, just helping crew... I'll be on the computer all weekend. Thanks again for the posts! |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
I am surprised DRC doesn't have times up yet. Draw has the sheets here.
#1 A/SA Holzman 9.968 -1.332 They are showing Barton in A/SA #2 9.973, but the board had him in AA/SA -1.327 Truman and Russo are showing DQ, probably fuel. The first 99 cars are over 1 second under. |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Dad just made his run is Super Stock. 9.796 @ around 2500 DA. -1.004 Not nearly as good as the 1500 DA I heard about this morning for Stock. A solid run, nonetheless.

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Also, heard Cobra Jets were using 56% throttle on first run. Can't wait for class!!
|
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
SS qualifying ended about a half hour ago. I believe James Caro ended up #1 with a 8.23 on a 9.65 index (-1.41 and change). If it was correct ... that'll be an index hit on tuesday morning for SS/BM.

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
It will be interesting to see how NHRA will deal with all of the 1.15 under runs come Tuesday morning.
|
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
SS posted on DRC now. Weird seeing AH cars ahead of both Wescotts. I'll bet that changes come Friday!

Here are a couple of pics from this morning.

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Stock just made our 2nd run. Most slowed down 3-6. Big Daddy did get a run in, but only about .85 or so under.
Scariest run was Bill Hawk. Got way up and wheelie bars collasped. Hit down hard. Broke oil pan. So he is trying to get it fixed. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Looks like a lot of people picked up in Stock. #128 is now -0.960 under. WOW!!!
|
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Is Barton in A/SA or AA/SA?
|
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
This is all WOW!!!
|
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Barton is flying in A/SA.
Just got back from the Ford Barbq and town meeting. Can you believe they invited a Mopar racer? We were definitely outnumbered. Larry introduced himself as the sacrificial lamb! It was a nice thing they did for the Ford people. They really seem to be interested in racing. Sorry but I forgot to bring the camera. Notes from today-- Hawk is broken and out for the weekend. Ronnie West spun the tires both runs. Fletcher is entered in stock, but I have not seen him at all. Bertozzi is parked across from us but has not gone down the racetrack yet. Bo Kenny made just the 1 run this morning. It should be a little cooler and better air 1st run at 8 in the morning. |

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Mrs. Van Lant, Did you see Brad sitting in the stands? He really is here!
Sorry I didn't get any more pictures taken today. I will try to get more tomorrow after class. We probably won't have anything to do after 1st round but watch! Bob Unkefer, You won't have any trouble finding the Emmons'. They are right up front. Really nice rig! More tomorrow. |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Larry and Patsy,
Great shots and reporting as always.. My wife and I are here for the first time since '91. Lots of changes! Will come over and say hello.... Show in Stock and Super Stock was awesome! Couple of highlights I noticed from Top Eliminator stands; New factory cars Dodges and Fords are in a class all of their own. Surprise, surprise! Stancil's 8.23 run was an "out of the park homerun!" Westcott Jr's 8.49 was equally impressive and have returned to a "stick" in the car! 283 SBC cars are turning some awesome rpms in burnout and starting line ie. Brown SS/K, Bichlemeir (sp) GT/I etc. Boertman broke on second run. Rashid turned off early just after starting line on SS second run in left lane. Rink broke a differential jsut after he left the strating line and came to a stop just past the '60 ft. marker. Jim Daniels SS/AH smoked the entire run in right lane in second session and everyone feared the worst. Apparently, that was not the case! Biggest surprise; where is the Fletch? More later... Mike |

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
It is 56 this morning and lots of dew. Calling for a chance of rain this evening. Mostly overcast now. They are already calling us up to the lanes. Most are trying to make this their fastest run so they can qualify. We just want to stay in the top half of the field, so we don't get one of the really fast A/SA 1st round.
Red just came by calling us up. It is a good thing, because we are so far back in the pits all we are getting on the radio station is the religion channel. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Thanks for the reports Patsy, Maybe some of them will need that Religion Channel for the Barn LOL

Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
A few new faces this morning: Malone, Bertozzi and Fletcher. Fletch is not in the show yet, but I am sure he will be after class. West made a pretty good run, but still shut it off early. We picked up a couple, so I hope we stay in the top of the field.
More after class. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
I'm not getting the pictures. I get a box that say's bandwidth exceeded. Anybody else having this problem?
|
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
I just can't get over the fact that if you're not running a second under, you're not getting in the show.... but it is the Big Go.....
I'm getting the same thing Floyd..... no pics..... |
Re: Live from Indy!!! US Nationals
Same here
