CountryPuppy, are you saying you will have a third pedal in your car next year? Remember, you must use the clutch to shift, as per the rules. More stick shift cars will bring some excitement and alot lore fun.

Mr. John,
Nope. I was referring to the SS/AH cars because the sticks will be lighter than the autos if the autos receive HP Monday.

The rains came yesterday and by last night there was little to do but put on some warm dry clothes and go visiting -- first stop was to my friends from MASGA who were celebrating Earl Nichols points championship win (see pic below ) at Tommy Goldman's who with longtime companion Kathy made several different kinds of Chili - great to have on a damp cold night ! !

Next stop was at Marc LeBreque's -- where they don't need a reason to celebrate -- they just do it .As you'll see from the pics Marc had a full "house" last night .Seems like everyone who came brought a covered dish deal and they ended up with more food and goodies than you can imagine .......And Marc -- opps --I know I promised to get your "good" side but which is it ?

So much for the food tour .....I know you won't believe this but as I type there are several noises that I'm hearing -- the first is OK -- rain hitting my coach roof and pretty hard ... the second is strange , very strange for sure -- I swear I'm hearing the vacumn running on the track - no really -- I think they are vacumming the track in the middle of a rain storm -- and yes , I've already taken my meds this morning -- maybe its not raining over there - they must have lights on that thing because its still dark out .Maybe there is more hope for today than I thought .............BTW - the temperature this morning is warm compared to last night -- must be sixty degrees already -- but the skies look mean and nasty......later .

Soon -- that is what NHRA officials are telling me -- under an hour starting with S/S time shot then on to Comp and Top Sportsman stuff .The Jets ( both of them - 1 gas - 1 kerosene ) have been running for almost two hours and the track is not yet perfect -- Cost Factoid ... Did you know that each of these Jets uses more than 3 gallons of fuel per minute ? Do the math -- its stiff -- ouch .

Re: Live fron the "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"

We're on the track finally with S/S class elims -- Hemi shootout coming up....

The weather is really in the toilet today -- over 2700 ' already and climbing -- most are off more than a tenth because of the air and there is also a wind issue .... and the skies can open any second .Great day to be here ............................

Hang on Jack, I'm sending nails, glue & hammers so you can build an ark,,,,,,

Unk

Course then again, this does allow more time for food & drink, especially drink :-)

PS -- on second thought forget the nails - lumber etc-- I've got my bus -- the girls and I can make do--- it'll float....

Compare these two pictures to the two I posted a half hour ago .....

Unk --I'm starting to rethink this deal -- maybe you better send the nails / lumber and glue -- check out these pics ...........and no signs of letting up ! ! ! Sorry about the poor pics but we are having a storm you know .BTW -- they just called Top Sportsman and Top Dragster to the lanes .How does that guy from your neck of the woods say it -- "Now that there is just wrong" ....................

Re: Live fron the "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"

Jack;
I feel really bad about the rain and I 'm gonna feel even worse if you get your wishes for two of everything.
LOL.

Knowing you the girls will have to earn their keep by drying and waxing your GTO. And then you'll use the nails and lumber from Unk, to bolt the front door on your Journey shut.

On second thought use epoxy, the nails might let the rising tides enter.

It's not looking great for the Yankee game tonight, so you might have to break out your
Tom Jones CD's to entertain the girls. (Mr. Smooth)

Have a good night.
Easy on the adult beverages!!

Ok Jack, wood, glue, hammers, and nails are on their way, I'll keep all 6 ladies safe here with me......
T/D & T/S to the lanes huh? Did someone there start selling paddle tires?

FWIW, the cloud cover we were SUPPOSED to get tomorrow morning is already rolling in this afternoon,,,,, and I can't believe that thats a good thing. We have though been able to get Stk, SST, SG, SS and SC 1st rouinds in today, DRC is posting as fast as possible,,,,, coverage is also on 1320go.com live timing

Jack,
Wow you have really had some bad luck with weather this second half of the season, You really should
have come West again like I said earlier this year, Vegas forecast is sunny and clear should be
good N fast, You would be welcome with open arms as long as you left the rain behind lol. Hope you
get the race in and go some round's, Good Luck.

Re: Live fron the "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"

Great news -- the water has gone away overnight and the ark we built yesterday afternoon is no longer needed .Today looks like it can turn out super even with lower temperatures today - a high around sixty is expected .The barometer at this moment is 29.45 with 53 % humidity which may burn off with the Sun coming out- the temp is 54 degrees but the vapor pressure is low at .24 -almost half of what it has been all weekend--all this adds up to a final DA around 700 -- not so bad and certainly faster than it has been all week .The expected start is to be 8:30 but I don't think so -- a little later for sure .The Jets have been running for about an hour or so and more than likely will for awhile .Headlights were running up and down the track most of the night trying to suck-up all the water that was standing and did a pretty good job .

After the storm we had yesterday today's outlook is terrific and it will be a busy day but one filled with some terrific racing for sure .

Both the NHRA and Maple Grove staff seemed a little short this weekend but worked their collective buttes off getting us this far along - kudos for them are in order -- this is another race where they had to work above and beyond -- and they performed well ! ! ! Way to go guys ..............

Jack Matyas 10-25-2009 08:35 AM

Re: Live fron the "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"

WOW ! ! ! ! This was the air we were looking for ........Jim Daniels during the Hemi Challenge went an astounding 8.27 @ almost 160 mph .It was a picture perfect run -- wheels up on the leave and just charging all the way down the quarter - those in attendance will remember it for sure .

The first round of stock completed and most didn't believe their weather stations -- many , many runouts and as much as .15 below their dials were common .The race of the round went to Erich Bollman in AA/SA trim with his '08 Cobra Jet who dialed 9.75 - caught his opponent - blipped it - then blipped it again and proceeded to run dead on - I've always said I'd rather be lucky..........

I would like to thank you for your live reports Jack. I hope to get there next year as at least a spectator if not a racer. Your reports are excellent and entertaining as were your pictures.

I want to second that. They didn't sure didn't skimp on fuel for the jet dryer, and did everything humanly possible to keep the show moving. I was exhausted just watching them. I'll bet they're all glad this season is over.

Thanks again to the D-1 and Maple Grove crews.

Re: Live fron the "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic"

Final note -- Speaking with Lex Dudas -- V.P./General Manager of Maple Grove yesterday he wanted me thank all the racers who did come to the "Pennsylvania Dutch Classic" inspite of bad weather predictions -- some came from the far ends of Canada and the United States just to compete .As most of you know some of the days were not much fun -- but yesterday made everyone forget -- it was one of the most exciting days at the track I can remember .Great racing for sure ..............congrats to all the winners ! ! !
