The only partnership Ray and I had was Leong and Cook Racing Engines and the race cars. Ray owned a Fork Lift repair shop in Elizabeth for a while. Before we became partners. He was partners with George Elliot in a gas station on Hylan Blvd, then a junkyard (chop shop) in Staten Island. That got them a little vacation time. |

Ah, ok. I thought it was Ray that had the gas station right at the Bayonne Bridge after I read the caption for this photo (I think Norman Blake wrote the captions - do you and Ray know Norman well?):
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u.../RayCook-2.jpg What year was this photo taken, Art? Also, can you tell me some specs on it? Whatever happened to it? It looks like it definitely was a street king! http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u.../RayCook-1.jpg |

Ed were you at this race?or were you driving around the village in your 57 chevy.

In the second picture you can see Al Masota (Al Cap) watching. I don't know what happened to the car. But the motor is still alive and well last I heard. Yeah I think we know Norman LOL We left him in Bowling Green Kentucky One year Forgot about him till we were about 200 miles up the road. But thats another story |
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
Wow, I never expected them to mess up those captions so badly. So that's not Bernie Agaman in the Nova and the Road Runner didn't do high-nines? It's still a startlingly wicked automobile.

But the one thing we got over on was that neither Tex or I had a drivers license when we were racing in B/SA. Luckily nobody asked to see one. |
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
Ed I was never a bell bottom guy,do you think art is telling the truth about beating that nova?a 375 chevy could never get out run by a 440 boat anchor.HAHA
|
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
ED never was a bell bottom guy.Do you think art is telling the truth about beating that nova?no way a 440 boat anchor could out run a 375 chevy.HAHA
|
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
That boat anchor worked pretty good. We got that guy 3 times that was the second time.
And the Nova was no 375 that was an aluminum head 427 with a dominator. A load of good parts. But none of them working together. |
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
ART i know your **** ran but who put that 427 together stevie wonder!!
|
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
You have to realize back then you didn't have all the support stuff or testing procedures you have now. An 11 second car was fast.
It was a lot of make a change "if it feels good it worked" That car would foul plugs bad. He would go to the track change the plugs and go mid 11's. That was the purpose of driving from Brooklyn to Staten Island no stopping to tune up. That was why you see me behind the cars. If he would have cleaned it out I would have devoloped a malfunction and not run. . |
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
Art I agree but I know some guys that bought a l88 crate motor back in the day and put it in 67 vette drive to the track and went 10.80.BUT I know what you mean.

Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
Hey Ed
I supplied the photos and the right info to the Editor, he decied to use it in his own way. He is the one who screwed up the info, not me. No one's names were suppose to be spcifically mentioned either. I was pretty miffed when this came out. Art, you should tell them the whole story about that night in Staten Island with the Nova and how it ended for everyone involved. Remember Ray passing the cops. Also the other one about Froggys car on the Trailer out at 150th Street and Tex looking for his dog! They should all get a kick out of that one,LOL!!:D |
Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
Here are the two hooligans when they did it legit back in the day. ;)

Re: Rufus Boyd aka Brooklyn Heavy passes.
I going to answer all the questions. I'm just busy right now. Finally got the motor and trans in.
Also I'm going to move this over to the lounge. I don't want to hijack Heavy's passing. And my old stories aren't related to class racing. I'll post here when I'm going to answer. Probably later today or tomorrow. |
