Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
I guess you also could just look at Stock National points....everyone's got their hero right now for sure, but who cannot be impressed with the Camaro's of both Ralph Popora and Joe Santangelo Jr.... Along w/a few others.....these 2 seem to be on cruise control. With alot more racing to come....almost anyone in the top 20 could still possibly win this title with a hot streak... Should be a great battle....right to the end. WJ

Sorensen's Camaro. That car is fast and the brothers are two of the funniest SOB's I have ever met.

Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Francois Periard B/SA 68 hemi road runner !! really fast with big wheelstand with a big heavy hemi in the front wow
Gene Monahan J/SA Firebird (that car makes big wheelstand) |
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Billy,
Thanks man, that was a good year for me. More impressive would be how you can continually cut good lights with your car. I still can't hit the tree with my AA car. I would have to say Steve Ficacci's 68' A/S AA/S Camaro. Steve's car has always impressed me over the years. Before the CJ's and DP's hit the seen his 68' Camaro was one of the fastest cars in the country if not the fastest. |
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
I agree with Billy Nees, Bob Shaw's Cadillac, how can you go wrong with a 2.5 under combo.
Ron Ortiz U/SA a whopping .5 under |
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Dave Casey's 1969 Corvette.
|
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
I really hate to admit to this but I actually believe that Ron Ortiz's car is the most impressive. Where else is there a car with a unique cracked granite paint scheme, that goes at least .5 under, with a little 2bbl, and a 62 year old driver that is capable of partying with the best of them yet still can cut a reasonable light at 8:00 AM first pair out. And, has a great time no matter what the result are.
The car contains decades of untouched rust and Georgia clay, and is a hybrid from another '67 Belvedere, and are you ready for this, a rear quarter panel off of a Ford, a GM alternator, and the original 1967 wiring. (Hey, when I get the wiring corrected it will be a .6 under car) The car has had multiple people in it, fits up to 10 people comfortably, as it has traversed the pits in search of a good time, some times in the Midway or the finish line area. Always equipped with tasty beverages and a party atmosphere, it is THE PARTY. Other cars may be very fast with all the latest expensive components and technology, but this little honey allows the driver to recognize friends and relatives in the stands up to the 1200 foot mark, then we have to pay attention the finish line. Try that with your standard A/, AA/, AAA/ car. So there you have it, what do you have that is better? Ron Ortiz U/SA Shaw has A/C |

Got to go with shaul, here's a guy racing with all the computer cars with a a 46 year old car that was obselete 30 years ago.
Honorable mention to THAT '67 Z28, keeping it competitive all these years is a great tribute to the man and car. JimR |
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
My choices...
1. Sorensen's Camaro...has everybody covered from AA/SA to B/SA 2. Anything Steve Wann builds...from small block to big block 3. Jim Mantle's... AMC Fish Tank... :) |
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Taking nothing away from Sorensen and I know things have changed over the years and I know it is only one race, but you seem to forget Don Little outran Sorensen in the class final at Indy in 2004, that Hemi was very impressive ...

Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
The Wenzel boys certianly should be on thelist somewhere. Same car. , class and eliminator competitive over 40 years. And as for big block car, I think that BOBBY DeARMOND 69 Camaro that dipped into the 9s in A/SA trim clear back in 2001 deserves a spot also

Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
There are many great running cars out there, but of the cars currently running the one that impresses me most is Billy Nees' 6 cyl powerglide Nova. Anyone who has raced a low horsepower car realizes how fast it is. Wade Owens is a close second.
|
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Just want to say thanks to all the guys still racing and finding horsepower and ?? to go faster. I am still partial to 302 Chevy small blocks that have to race against cars with 160+ cubic inches and still run mid 10's. Also, although you don't see many any more of the Tri5 Chevy's, they have a place in my heart. Thanks to the 5 liter Camaro's.

Lots of impressive cars in Stock. Johnny Grays Nova, Jim Boudreaus Camaro, Cecil Fraziers Camaro, Steve Ficacci Sr's Camaro (1st Stocker I saw go in the 9's after Bobby D'Armond), Steve Jr's Camaro, Evan Smiths Mustang, Abbazia Brothers Chevelle they ran a few years back, Jim Marshalls Corvette, Stave Calabros Corvette, Bob Horgans Camaro, Kens Mustang, Dusty Lowells Duster and the list could go on just here in D1.

Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Larry Peterson.s 454 ci b/sa flys for a car that heavy and wheelies like it does is very impresive,Steve Koppiens c.o.p.o. camaro ,Ralph Porpora 69 a/s camaro and im not a ford guy but C.Whittney,s wagon is one hell of a stocker, their are many ,,,,,,,,
|
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Gordie, cup holders???. Are you kidding me, if you ride in the wagon you hold your tasty beverage in your hand and consume it as quickly as possible, it is the party wagon, no need for cup holders, this is a fast ride, in a time revelelancy type of thing.
Ron Ortiz U/SA c'mon, Shaw at 2.5 under |
Re: Most Impressive car in Stock Elim.
Lance Line's A/SA 69 Mustang, Jim Conte's C/SA 69 Mustang, Alf Weibe/ Jason Line's 70 C/SA Buick and last but not least Scott Burton's B/SA 70 Firebird...
