It's actually quite sad, and in many cases hard to read. My English is far from perfect, but holy crap, there are some really poor posts on here. I mean come on, read your post before hitting enter.

Thanks, Dean
I've been contemplating a similar post for a while now. You saved me from being the bad guy once again.
Guys, You ought to try Mozilla Firefox.

Really? You two need to get over yourselves! This is not a spelling or grammar contest! This is an internet forum. As long as you get your point across that is all that matters. We are not a group of literary geniuses here, we are racers. We work with our hands, not type with them. If all you have to do in life is complain about someone elses grammar, then you need to get another hobby or find a different web site.

Just my .02

Yes really, whether we're talking about an internet forum, text message ,memo to your boss etc..
Everybody makes errors once in a while, but you would have to admit some of the posts here are darn hard to read and understand,

This is not coming from an English Major..Just your average 12th grader.

I have the same magazine. The scoop (or scoop-ayyyyyy...lol) was an add on. Not factory produced.

I don't think you can get away with any scoop size.

Can someone on this web site tell me how much horse power you get when you add a "six pack or Hemi" style hood scoop, or any hood scoop, to a Mopar car? No matter what the discussion concerning a rule it always leads to a scoop on a Mopar car.

I have one on a 1972 Plymouth Duster and I swear I don't think it is good .001 second in et at any track. If someone knows different please tell me. I am building a new motor and was in this same type of discussion with racers. For fun I mention using domed pistons aftermarket crankshaft in the discussion and got to the scoop on the hood and "oh no you can't run that scoop on that hood." Didn't say anything about what I said about the engine.

As long as we are on the subject can I run a shaker hood on my 1970 Barracuda with a 383 4 barrel combo?

Re: Hood scoopes

On my '70 AMX D/S 124-125 MPH car with factory sealed ram-air I taped the scoops shut once. I couldn't document any ET difference and the MPH was maybe .1 better with the scoops functioning. Admittedly the scoop on this car is not really high enough to be a real advantage but that's my experience.
What is good about a scoop is the extra carb clearance you may get, which in itself can be an advantage to some cars.

Ryan, I'm sorry if I offended you, I'm actually quite humble. I am also well aware that this forum is not a writing contest. But seriously, so many people come on here and bitch about this and bitch about that, and how can they ever get anything fixed when they can't communicate in common written English? I see your point but some of the posts on here are not worthy of a Third grade essay. And we wonder why our country is suffering? Grown men can't write! Do you think NHRA or anyone else will take someone seriously when they can't draw up a letter explaining a simple gripe?

Are people so desperate to be heard that they can't re-read a post before hitting enter?

Dave Bortman ran a shaker set up with a 383 on his 1970 Rod Shop Challenger, and did quite well in SS/JA.

I believe Boertman's car was a 71 383 with the small Holley carb???? Mine was a 71 383 and it had a shaker hood and "scoop-ayyy" on it. I ordered it new in the early spring of 71 just for racing. No other options other than the hood, an automatic, tinted glass, and posi rear. NHRA probably allows them on the 70 383 model as the street Hemi 'Cudas had them. NHRA seems to allow "scoop-e's" on everything else.

Phillip, You can run the shaker hood on a 1970 Cuda with the 340, 4 barrel, the 383, 4 barrel, the 440 six-barrel, and the 426 hemi. I hope that helps.

On the Cuda yes, Although they only came on Six Packs and Hemis. But can I claim the car as a 383 Barracuda and use the shaker. ?

Phillip, If you will look at the engine specs. for thr 1971 Chrysler you will see it list two diferent carbs for the 383/ 300 hp. its under note 4. I think its a 6191 list for auto 4668 list for the stick. The 340 even had a shaker along with the 1970 440/ 370. Hope this helps.

Thanks Larry, My question is regarding a 1970 Barracuda not a 1971 Cuda though.

P.S I finally bought some new radial slicks for the Coronet but they didn't help although it is going thru the traps with more RPM now, Enough to get back into valve float again.aaarrrggghhhhh!

Phillip,

When I came home from my Southeast Asian vacation I bought a new '70 Cuda with 340, 4sp and a Shaker Hood. If the 340's had them then I'm sure the 383's had them.
