Michele,

No offense taken, and if you have issues with security, that's your problem. They were nothing but courteous to me when I rolled in.

My post was to make sure racers that are on there way get the right information, not rumors or hearsay.

Ken,

Will they tech cars Thursday or do we have to wait til Friday morning?

Re: "Live From" the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.

Bobby,

Tech is tomorrow for sportsman racers.

Its a cloudy morning with some sprinkles, but we did have a brief bit of sun trying to come out.

Rigs are still coming in, I would guess there are about 125 in the field now.

I will get some pictures of the pit area in a few hours and see the condition they are in.

Sorry you are not at the Grove reporting, you could have had a 'field day' out there.

"Field day"...good one...

I really don't think it will be that bad. Sure, it might be a little sloppy in your immediate pit spot, but after literally DECADES of burying rigs in "the field", I'm confident that they've at least put down some stone to form roadways so one can get to their trailer without getting stuck. You would have to be a complete idiot to leave a disaster situation in the same condition AGAIN, right?

Maybe Ken can grab some pics for us so we can all "go with confidence"...

Re: "Live From" the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.

I do know since the divisional that the area by the teardown barn and the hill has been paved. They used the leftover millings from the track work and paved that area, so thats one less area to get stuck in. As far as anything else I'm not sure.

Just got back from walking in the pits . Tech people said all sportsman will be parked in fields . Black top all the way to barn will be used up .Not too muddy but after rigs start to roll in it could be

Okay everyone, I just got back from the pits. The pits look pretty good, but there are some spots that still have standing water. The high ground near the barn is solid. The filed were most of the s/ss park is a 50/50 mix. Some good spots some not, but it is draining well. There are some nice spots behind were comp will park along the fence.

The newly paved area near the barn is for alcohol. I talked to Redman for bit, he was just giving me the heads on were they are parking all the classes.

The pictures show the parking area to be okay, but like I said there are some soft spots, they could turn into mud if rigs are parked there. Right now I think they would be able to park 150 rigs in the good spots if they chose to.

Its still cloudy but the sun is trying to come out. Its cold and a little breezy, temp is about 55, but at least its not raining.

Not many more rigs came in, still about 130 in the field.

I just heard from an Alcohol FC friend that A/FC and TAD are going to loose 1 qualifying run on Friday so they have enough time to run all the Sportsman cars down the track at least once on Friday................Tom

WOW!!! that schedule cleared it up! S/ST gets 2 RD-1's on friday! they dont have enough time for everyone, so now they have buy backs for S/ST! kool!!!
just kidding about buy backs..but i would assume as usual it will be S/C trying to get down the track at 8:00'ish... arent we lucky but i guess its the same day as our time run.

Re: "Live From" the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.

So do we just pull our stockers back to the lanes after fuel check? We all know how long that tacks..

What would happen if we all just parked all of our cars in the lanes.. Lets shut this race down just like the truckers do on the turnpike..

Now that would be fun!!

Re: "Live From" the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.

Maybe someone in line can confirm this - got a text from another racer in line saying - now that the sun is out the weepers have begun, NHRA is drilling holes in the track and finding water.

Charlie Yannetti 10-06-2010 02:20 PM

Re: "Live From" the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.

Come on now, Don.. did Sal put you up to that one??.. cause that's funny right there.. or not.. it is NHRA that would drill holes in a new surface to find water, knowing full well that it's already there.. I'm just sayin'...

Latest update..... pits are drying out nicely and they could park us if they wanted to. I guess the key word is "wanted".

As you can see the sun is out, although it is still on the cool side.

Here a shot of the mud wrestling pit, they started clearing early this morning, it should be a fun day tomorrow.

Re: "Live From" the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.

Why can't Maple Grove PAVE part of the grass area where all of us sportsman racers park ???

They just need to pave where the tires go on the tow vechicles or at least put stone down, then it wouldn't be such a mud bowl.

I felt sorry for all you guys that went to Gainesville that year and couldn't take your cars out to Sunday. That's just plain B.S. And we pay $270. for entry fee.....

We need to start our own organization: SHRA.... where we call the shots...

Oh, wait a minute, no they didn't...they all still get 4 runs to qualify for a field where virtually anything that doesn't piss all over it's own shoes gets in...

And we get one whole ONE run, and then are sent into first round. Someone that loses first round in Stock can physically be on the grounds for less than Five hours...

That's awesome...

Believe me when I tell you...I've erased way more of this post than what remains...I haven't had quite enough Ultras to fully speak my mind!!!

Careful Dan. Talk like this could land you in the teardown barn .But at least it won't be muddy !

Maple Grove does not own the "Stocker Field" . I asked Lex the very same thing and was told the field is leased and they can make no improvements on it...............Who else remembers when NHRA drilled holes in the track at Englishtown to "relieve" the pressure??.......I went thru the traps sideways, and had water dripping out of the fenderwells at that race!......must have had 40 workers with white towels mopping up after every pair.................Tom

Man after what you guys and gals went thru last week at ATCO I hope it isn't another lost weekend. Two weeks in a row ( fuel, entry, race gas, food, hotel, blah blah blah gets expensive) when no racing takes place. Good luck.

Re: "Live From" the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals.

Tom,

I've heard the "leased field" excuse before as well, but lets be serious. Do you really think the farmer that they've leased the field from for DECADES would actually tell them "uh, no...you can't put any stone down...at your expense...I'm not having any of that..."

Sorry, but to me, that doesn't pass the "reasonable man test". Call me cynical, but I call bull****...

Today's weather calls for a high of 72 with the temp a chilly 54 degrees this morning - good news is that almost no rain is called for today ( 20 % chance ) - its to be Sunny all day if you can believe the forecasters - high humidity but some will burn off ..........things are looking up for sure .Tomorrow is even looking better with 78 degrees expected and a barometer in the high 29's .......................

Well the rain is a thing of the past, blue skies and bright sunshine for today and the rest of the weekend.

I just finishing talking to the NHRA officials. They will start parking at 9 am. No saving spots, if you want to park next to someone, you have to wait in the field and go in with them.

The are sending Tech out to the field to tech us in while we wait to be park.

Mid afternoon and about 80% of the rigs are parked. The guys parking us are doing an outstanding job. NHRA Tech is out and about teching all cars. No need to go anywhere, they came to us.

Its a beautifully day as you can see from the picture, a little windy but still nice.

Schedule for tomorrow is still the same, with stock being the first out at 8:45.
